Our Annual Quincy Society of Fine Arts Awards Luncheon was held. Travis Brown had the honors of introducing David Boster, the QSFA President. Mr. Boster took the opportunity to discuss the international and national search that took place for a new Executive Director. After an extensive search they realized the best person for the job was right under their nose in Lenny Bart. Lenny took time to share some statistics which included the following. 49% of Americans attended some sort of visual arts event last year. 25% attended some sort of outdoor arts event and 50% of Americans either created or shared someone else's art last year. At that point the new Executive Director Bart introduced The Quincy Herald Whig's new General Manager Ron Wallace and WGEM's General Manager Carlos Fernandez. Although they tried, the team of Wallace and Fernandez didn't quite get to the level of Abbott and Costello. A for effort though. Mayor Kyle Moore became the sixth person to be introduced and he had the honors of announcing the winners of the various awards. Prior to the announcement, Mayor Moore shared that every dollar spent on the arts translates to 3 or 4 dollars to the city. Here were the winners of the 2013 City of Quincy Arts Awards sponsored by the Quincy Herald Whig and WGEM:

Volunteer Leadership Award..............Maggie Strong

Individual Artist & Teacher Award........Anne Stupavsky

Business Leadership Award......Mark Ehrhart of Kohl Cash & Carry

Original Arts Award....Quincy Community Theatre and Dan Conboy

All of the award winners received original prints created by Blaine Barnes' art classes at Quincy Junior High School. By the way, the awards date back to 1981 when George Irwin first established the ceremony

This & That

Bill Stalder presented our opening prayer followed by Charlie Ledbetter's utterance of the letter "I" to begin the P____of A________. You fill in the blanks and turn in your answers this Friday. There was no tail twisting at last Friday's meeting. I expect it will return this Friday.

President Chuck Venvertloh then thanked everyone for contributing stories of past Exchange Club happenings last week.

Chuck also asked if he would be fined for mentioning his campaign for County Clerk. The consensus was "Yes" (Tail-twister remember this).

Chuck then presented Zeke Cernea with an award (a Chuck Venvertloh for County Clerk business card) for having the best hat in the club Friday.

Surprisingly, there was NO mention of the Dallas Cowboys this week.

The card draw was put on hold last Friday, much to the chagrin (that's disappointment to the uninformed) The pot will be worth over $550 this Friday with 37 cards left in the deck.
