Dr. Anthony Biggs was our featured speaker last Friday. Dr. Biggs is the Director of the Sports Medicine Department at the Quincy Medical Group. Dr. Biggs attended Millikin University, Midwestern University and Michigan State University in route to beginning his practice with the Quincy Medical Group nearly 6 years ago. Dr. Biggs was lured here with the help of Aaron Clark who introduced him. Aaron met Dr. Biggs when both were in school in Decatur. His operation works with almost every athletic department in the area by providing trainers to be with those teams during practices and games and as needed in between. They currently have 6 full time trainers on staff who aggressively treat athletes so they can compete as quickly as possible after suffering an injury. They also work with other entities like the Dark River Derby Coalition, Quincy's women's roller derby team, The Quincy Gems, The Bridge the Gap runners as well as with the participants in the Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball tournament. Their work is not only with athletic organizations but also with individuals too. The "weekend warriors" are a big part of their clientele. They also deal with the concussion problems athletes sustain, which has become a major issue in many sports. If you missed the program, you missed a good one.

This & That

Jared Haugh offered a stirring prayer to lead us in the meeting as well as Christmas week.

Josh Klitz began the pledge with authority, enough so that the rest of the membership joined in to complete it. Josh's picture is included for all members to get acquainted with him. Steve Labs was his sponsor.

Steve Peters made the rounds collecting a buck as the tail twister for the meeting. Along the way he told a couple of heartwarming Christmas jokes.

Curt Moore conducted the 50-50 card draw. Steve Eckert had the right ticket to play and drew a 10 of Clubs. So the pot of $508 escalates (that means goes up for the non-Student of the Month members)

President Chuck Venvertloh dined on left-over crow again as his Cowboys ran out of air in the final minute of their game with Green Bay.

He did mention his thanks to Dennis and Joel Koch for lining up things for the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament which unfortunately was cancelled due to inclement weather. There will be no makeup date.

Chuck did live up to his commitment and presented a 12 pack of beer to both Bob Hays and Steve Labs for bringing in a new member recently.

President Venvertloh then presented our wonderful waitress, Jennifer Shaffer, a check from the membership as a Christmas bonus. She does a wonderful job for us each week and we appreciate her efforts each and every week.

We had one guest last Friday and that was Luke Greenwell, the son of Doug Greenwell. Luke is apparently entering the sports medicine field and took the opportunity meet with Dr. Biggs after the meeting.

Don't forget after this Friday's lunch gathering we will gather at the Quincy Holiday Inn this Friday night for the Club's Spousal Christmas Party as well.

Line of the Week

Belongs to Mel Dillman who reminded our President and Dallas Cowboy fan that he should not buy the new Tony Romo Doll for Christmas because there is a warning on the bottom of the box that says this product is a "choking hazard".
