Club Meets at Noon each Friday at Stoney Creek Inn, 3809 Broadway in Quincy
2012-2013 Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs Best Bulletin Award Winner
This Friday

There is no better time to talk golf than just prior to the beginning of winter. Mark Christianson of Christianson Golf Academy will be our speaker as he tells us about his business and he may even give us a few tips. Members: Take notes because most of us won't remember what he said by tee time in April. Join us this Friday for another great program at Quincy's finest hour!

Yet it was another wonderful meeting featuring the hearing impaired students from the Quincy Public School System and Santa. Former member Bob Moss was instrumental in putting the program on for years and the Club has continued the tradition. The Exchange Club presented Katie Stegner, the organizer of today's event, a check for $900 to be used for the hearing impaired program in the Quincy Public School System. After the kids put on their wonderful Christmas play for the Club to enjoy, Santa "Dog", I mean Claus, made his usual appearance with his usual "Don Rickles" type commentary for the membership. Then it was time for Santa to interact with the kids as he gave each child a gift. These gifts were for the good kids and not for the members who just didn't seem to have their names on the good list for some reason. Thanks to Art Awerkamp for organizing this very special program.
Give-a-Kid-a-Chance

Thanks to Charlie Ledbetter and his helpers in putting on The Give a Kid a Chance Dinner and visit with Santa held last Friday at the Senior Citizen's Center.   Santa, pulling double duty last Friday, had a five hour layover between gigs. Unconfirmed reports had him killing the time with his friends Jim Beam and Jack Daniels (reindeer juice as Charlie put it).  Again, those were unconfirmed reports and when asked Santa responded "no comment".

The kids and families had a great dinner and a wonderful time getting gifts from "The Claus".  Once the event was over, Santa took off with the reindeer toward the North Pole where Beam and Daniels were waiting again for him.  Gonna be quite a ride in a few weeks. Seriously, this is one great Christmas event that the Club puts on and if you were there you could see it in the eyes of the kids and their families. Some of these kids have next to nothing and the presents were nice, but for many the meal they got was something they hardly ever get.  Thanks to all who helped.

This & That

John Spring led us in prayer followed by Mike McLaughlin's James Earl Jone's type rendition of "I" which was followed by the rest of the gathering.

President Chuck Venvertloh began the meeting showing his support for his beloved "Cowboys". Chuck was working with the podium microphone for the first time after the club purchased a 100 foot mic cord. That now gives us the opportunity to use two microphones as we did Friday when Santa used the wireless mic.

Prospective member Josh Klitz was in attendance but was not inducted. I guess our President didn't want that potential stirring ceremony to upstage the special meeting.

Speaking of Charlie, he is still selling raffle tickets for the Marine Corps Reserve "Toys for Tots" campaign. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10 to win a $500 beef bundle from HyVee and a deep freezer from Menards. Second place is a $100 gift certificate to the Quincy Mall. Contact Charlie for tickets.

When we return the card draw will be worth close to $450 after Rick Veihl had the winning ticket but drew the wrong card. For those who don't remember the right card is an Ace of Spades. $450 would be a nice Christmas present for someone

Don't forget the Club's Christmas Party will be on December 27th this year at the Quincy Boat Club. We will have music and "The News" that day as well along with some great food. That evening the Club's Spousal Christmas Party will be held as well. That will be at the Holiday Inn that evening. Rides to the Holiday Inn can be negotiated for those who never left the Boat Club.

December 14th is the date for the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament at QHS Gymnasium (that's this Saturday). We will need plenty of help to pull off this event as some 21 teams will be playing. So please sign up to help with this wonderful event.

Rick Veihl went around the room and collected tip money for our waitress from our membership. We will collect again this Friday. We ask for at least a $10 bill

Condolences to Kent Anderson. Kent's father, Robert, passed away at the age of 89. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kent and his family

Belongs to Santa, who after being told by one of the kids that he wanted "Call of Duty", uttered the following

 - "I had one of those before the meeting"

Don't think it's the same thing
