Marsha Cray presented a wonderful program on the history of Quincy's 12 breweries dating back to 1834. The first brewery was established that year by Anton Delabar who came to Quincy from Boden, Germany. After he opened his brewery a migration to Quincy from Germany began. His brewery burnt down three years later in 1837 which was about the same time that Casper Ruff arrived in Quincy and started his own brewery to compete with the newly rebuilt Delabar Brewery. A feud developed between the two after Ruff hired away Delabar's best brewer. The feud continued over land and other things. Both men soon had another challenge in that more breweries were opening creating further competition. Ms. Cray filled us in on the other breweries and capped it off with some history of the Dick's Brewery which at one time was larger than Anheuser Busch. Dick's Brewery's demise came when the family lost ownership to an outside interest and the rest is history. Very interesting history of beer in Quincy and if you missed the meeting you missed a good one. Thanks to Gary Peters for his three second introduction which went like this. "It's my pleasure to introduce our speaker Marsh". Gary was fantastic in running the video portion of the presentation as well.

This & That

Jared Haugh got things rolling with a prayer that included thanking the Lord for beer and for our veterans.

Sonny Christner belted out the first line of the Pledge of Allegiance before the rest of the Club could catch up with him.

Curt Moore conducted the 50-50 card draw with Dr. Lenny Biallas holding the winning ticket. Lenny drew an Ace of Diamonds (not Spades) so the pot of $360 goes up even more this Friday.

Rick Gengenbacher presented information on Monday's Veteran's Day ceremony as Exchangite Chris Scarano was the featured speaker. Rick also asked for the 8 veterans in attendance to stand up and be recognized.

Mel Dillman reminded everyone of the Annual Ploughman's Lunch at Christ Lutheran Church at 333 South 36th Street on Wednesday (tomorrow). They deliver too!

We had one guest at last Friday's meeting and that was John Mast of Trend Consulting. John was the guest of Travis Brown.

President Chuck announced that the Club finally presented the five firehouses in the city a plaque as Carlos Fernandez joined him at those presentations (see picture).

He also reminded everyone of the Special Olympic Basketball tournament date of Saturday, December 14th.

The initial meeting for the Fishing for Freedom event was held. Chris Scarano represented us at the meeting. More details will be forthcoming.

Also December 6th is the date for the Hearing Impaired Christmas luncheon. That evening the Give a Kid a Chance Dinner will also be held. Looks like Santa stays suited up that day.

Jeff Dorsey tail twisted the Club with a joke or two as well as dropping dollars on the floor and knocking over drinks. It was an eventful tour of the tables which culminated in President Chuck Venvertloh getting fined an extra buck for not using the risers set up after the time that was taken to get them last week to be used.

Lincolnland Conference was held last weekend with Dennis and Joel Koch in attendance. They will have all the exciting details of the meetings this Friday.
