Tracy Orne, the Director of Public Relations and Marketing at John Wood Community College, put on a different hat and joined us to discuss the upcoming Octoberfest in Quincy. The event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Quincy of which Tracy is a member, will be held on Saturday from 4 to 10pm at the old Dick's Brewery site in "Calf Town" on York Street from 9th to 10th Streets. When the German Village Society disbanded, the Rotary Club went to work and is trying to rejuvenate an old German heritage event. Octoberfest will feature German beers and food along with contests including a brat eating contest and a stein holding competition. There will also be tours of the old brewery, the underground tunnel and the brew house as well for just $5. Those tours begin at 4pm and end at the Brew House at 7 and the Bottle House at 8. You'll also get the opportunity to sample some home brews as well. There will also be music provided by the Heidelberg German Band from 4 to 6 and the Cheeseburgers from 6 to 10. American beers plus hot dogs and hamburgers will also be available. Commemorative Steins will also be sold as well for just $5.

This & That

The meeting got off to a revival like tone thanks to the prayer of Jared Haugh and was followed by "I" from Mike Smith to begin the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bruce Broemmel had the honors of fleecing the flock for a buck each which included a joke from Bruce, of course. It was a joke that wouldn't have been told had Gary Peter's earlier comments not been made.

President Chuck Venvertloh mentioned a thank you note received for the Club's recent donation to the Autism Support Group. Our $318 donation came from monies raised at the recent Chili Dog Sales night. Chuck thanked Perry Terwelp for chairing that event for us.

Curt Moore is recuperating from rotator cuff surgery which will keep him off of the golf course for the rest of this season. He should be ready in time for spring training in March (whoops...wrong sport). In his absence, Rick Goughnour handled the card draw which saw Steve Green have the winning ticket. Steve, trying to win the $228 pot, drew an 8 of Clubs. So the pot will grow some more for this Friday's drawing.

Doug Greenwell also reminded everyone to please fill out your surveys. It only takes a few minutes to fill it out and please bring it back by this Friday.

We had one guest last Friday and that was Kyle Awerkamp who was invited by his uncle, Art .

Yet another new member has joined our club as Aaron Clark was inducted with another stirring ceremony led by Gary Peters. Aaron, from Quincy Medical Group, was sponsored by Mike Elbe who was unable to attend so Jim Benz stood in for him. Welcome Aaron.

In an effort to make sure all of our members are recognized we are featuring one of our newest members in John Mehaffy who is employed at Ameren Illinois. John is married to Judie and has two children Lauren and Ian. John was sponsored by John Johannes.

Just a reminder, the next Board Meeting is set for October 14th at The Pier (3rd floor).

Belongs to Gary Peters, who after hearing Jared Haugh's stirring prayer and after hearing that our speaker was a member of another service club, said

 - "Hey, you don't get that in Rotary".
