Club Meets at Noon each Friday at Eagle's Nest (formerly America's Best Value Inn)
2012-2013 Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs Best Bulletin Award Winner
This Friday

As of this writing we are still securing a speaker for next Friday. Perhaps we should have someone from Gem City Armored Car join us in case someone wins the pot. Join us Friday for Quincy's finest hour and see if anyone wins the big drawing. The pot is over $1,500 and growing!

Penny Roberts Penny Roberts from the Air Evac Lifeteam was our speaker. Penny has been with air Evac Lifeteam as a sales representative for the past eight years. In that time, Air Evac has grown from being in 12 states to the 28 they now serve. They are a member of the Air Med Care Network. For those who don't know, this is more than a transport aircraft. This helicopter is basically a flying emergency room. She shared that the average cost of a flight is upwards of $30-thousand. Memberships are in increments of 1, 3, 5 and 25 years with a one year membership costing only $65. Individual and family memberships are available. In response to a question about where they fly, Penny answered that that is up to the crew to decide. They access the situation and go to the nearest trauma facility to handle the patient. If multiple helicopters are necessary they call in another unit from Kirksville, Columbia, or Jacksonville. Apparently, she convinced several club members to become an Air Evac member with several staying after the meeting to sign up. President Chuck Venvertloh handled the introduction.

Mel Dillman needs some contact information from the membership on proposing the Corporate sponsorship package for Smoke on the River. The package cost has been adjusted downward to entice more sponsors and it includes up to 10 people to enjoy the BBQ with beverages from 3pm on Friday (September 6th) and a chance to hang out in the cooking pits the entire time with the Pit Master. All ten people will receive their very own Smoke on the River folding chair to keep as well. Basically, it is a party for ten for just $1,000. Please let Mel know if you have any suggestions of organizations that might want to enjoy the night at Smoke on the River.

Mel Dillman reported ticket sales of $2,700 so far for the Smoke on the River Raffle to win a 2013 Kawasaki four-wheel ATV valued at $7,500 or a $250 Beef Bundle from the Butcher Block. I went to public school and it looks like we need to sell $5,051 worth of tickets just to make a profit. The tickets are $5 or 3 for $10. If you need more tickets to sell or posters to put up at your workplace, contact Mel at 228-1208. Only 3 weeks left.

A big thank you to Vic Welper who managed to get us into the KC BBQ to sell tickets and sell we did, with a total of $1,155 worth of tickets being sold. Also, Bill Stalder managed to use social media (Facebook) to sell over $300 worth of tickets. Way to go Bill and Vic!

Mel also reported that we are on our way to having some 40 contestants for this year's Smoke on the River event. Kent Anderson also reported that he has secured 53 certified judges for the event as well which should be enough to cover the 40 contestants.

Don't forget there is a Smoke on the River meeting every Tuesday, including tonight (August 20th) at 5:30pm at The Dock. Everyone is welcomed to attend the meeting. For more info on Smoke on the River, go to www.smokeontheriver.net

This & That

Jared Haugh opened the meeting with our prayer followed by the longest pronunciation ever of a single syllable (the word "I") to initiate the Pledge of Allegiance by Bob Hays.

Steve Peters handled the tail twisting duties while he continued to eat. While collecting dollars he did manage to tell a joke about a church organist. If you see Steve in Mass this week, ask the priest to ask him to tell the joke. Hope he knows where the confessional is after he tells it?

President Venvertloh announced to the membership that the Board of Directors agreed to purchase a tree to be planted and dedicated in the name of the Club along the Bill Klingner Friends of the Trail pathway.

A big thank you to Cullan Duke and Kelly Stupavsky for being the Exchange Club representatives in last Saturday's Friends of the Trail Bike Ride.

Chuck also revealed that the Club will now be taking over the sponsorship of the Fishing for Freedom event set for next spring.

The Exchange Club also donated American Flags to the Quincy High School Booster Club for a patriotic event as part of the upcoming QHS-QND soccer game.

Yet another new member will be joining the men of action soon. The Club held a first reading for Chris Scarano. He is being proposed for membership by Dan Veihl.

Cory Watson Speaking of new members, we have had quite a few new people join our ranks and from time to time they will be featured in the bulletin just to help the membership get to know each other a little better. This was a suggestion made by Dr. Lenny Biallas and it was a good one. This week's featured new Exchangite is Cory Watson who was sponsored by Dick Wentura . Cory and Kristie Watson have two children, Kendall who is 12 and Kaylie who is 9. Cory works at Private Wealth Management. Thanks for joining Cory!

Travis Brown is organizing the Exchange Club's Walking Team for the upcoming Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimers, a disease that has unfortunately affected several past Exchange Club members. That event will be held on Thursday, September 5th with walkers going from Clat Adams Park to The Dock and back. As a member of the Exchange Club, I suspect several members will just stop at The Dock and hang out which is alright as well. We just need walkers that night. Contact Travis if you are interested.

The deck of cards is now down to just 14 cards after Jared Haugh drew the 2 of Clubs and failed to win the pot of $1,540. Never have so many, taken so much enjoyment in a fellow club member's loss as they did Friday when Jared failed to pull the Ace of Spades. The growing pot and attendance will make for another exciting Friday. Thanks to Rick Goughnour for handling the drawing.

Congratulations to Nathan Fritts, the son of club member Ron Fritts. Nathan was recently commissioned as 1st Lieutenant for the United States Air Force. Congratulations Nathan and proud dad, Ron. Thanks for serving Nathan.
