After a week away we return to the "Eagles Nest" for our first full meeting under the Chuck Venvertloh presidency. Our speaker will be Chris Marks who is an 8 time Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) World Champion. Chris will be talking about one of our favorite topics "barbecue".  Why not bring a guest and learn a few BBQ techniques along the way.

This & That

Jim Lierly had the last opportunity to win the 50-50 pot but he drew the 3 of Clubs so the pot of $1159 grows even more. With Chuck as President now, I am not sure who will have the honors of running the card draw event this Friday. Show up Friday and find out with the rest of us.

At our last meeting, outgoing President Perry Terwelp was presented the President's plaque by incoming President Chuck Venvertloh. Chuck then took over the reins and thanked Perry for his work the past year and established a couple of goals of his own. One of those goals was to have a Plus-5 rating on new members with the offer of a 12 pack of beer to anyone who brings in a new member. Hopefully, the beer truck will be needed by the end of the Chuck Venvertloh presidency.

It was announced during the Board meeting Monday that two new people have applied to be members.  Come to the meeting Friday and find out who they are.

There will be a Smoke on The River meeting tonight (Tuesday, July 9th) and every Tuesday night at 5:30 at The Dock. Everyone is welcomed to attend.

Just a reminder, we are looking for next year's Smoke on the River Chairman. If interested now is the time to step up and get involved with this year's event so a smooth transition can be made from Mel Dillman, this year's chairman, to hopefully you. Mel and others will assist whoever decides to take this project over so you will not be going it alone.

The update on Fred Lauder's recuperation from heart surgery is that Fred got to go home Saturday and is recovering. He has lost 41 pounds since he went in for his surgery. Here's hoping for Fred's speedy recovery so he can rejoin us soon.

Line of the Week

(From the Big Dog's Supply of Jokes)

Celibacy can be a choice in life, or a condition imposed by circumstances. While attending a "Marriage Enhancement Weekend" a husband and wife listened to the instructor as he declared "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other". He then addressed the husbands and asked   "Can you name and describe your wife's favorite flower?" The husband leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently and whispered "Gold Medal All Purpose, isn't it?" Thus began the husband's life of celibacy
