Jared Haugh had a suggestion for Perry's whistle as he delivered the prayer to start things.
Doug Reed, sounding a lot like his old basketball coach, Jerry Leggett, used the word "I" to state the pledge.
Jared Haugh was pulling double duty in handling the tail-twisting honors as well.
President Terwelp took the opportunity to thank Tony Nutt, Mel Dillman, and Curt Moore for co-chairing Gus Macker. Steve Green will have the honors for next year. Perry also thanked Kent Anderson for handling the Buster tent for Doug Greenwell who handled the preliminary work for it. He also expressed thanks to Vic Welper for handling the court sponsors, David Adam, Scott Westhaus, and Rick Gengenbacher for getting the busters needed and Dave Poland for handling brackets and Randy Frese for running registrations. Hats off to Rick Gengenbacher for throwing out a player during Macker who turned out to be a cop from Keokuk. Guess Rick won't be going through that town for a while. Sorry if I missed someone mentioned (remember, I was sitting next to Miss Illinois-slightly distracted). Mike Lavery was also thanked for his vision 23 years ago to bring Macker to Quincy and also for busting last weekend.
Perry then awarded David Adam the MVP Award for Macker for securing the busters needed to pull off the event. I believe we got about 68 of them with most going back to work camps after the event ended...just kidding.
President Terwelp thanked Steve Labs for his efforts at Hy-Vee on Harrison in selling blue ribbons for our Child Abuse Prevention campaign. $1500 was raised for Transition of Quincy because of his and his employee's efforts.
Perry, securing teammates to join him in the June 8th Mud Mania competition, mentioned that he recruited our speaker Megan Ervin to be on our team. The team roster not surprisingly filled up quickly. Seriously, he does need teammates to join him Saturday. Megan has another commitment (not telling ya!)
The Club also received thank you letters from former Golden Deeds winner Hazel Mills, Steven Musholt for his Student of the Year award, and from Cornerstone for our donation to their golf event.
We were honored to have as guests Hanna and Halle Smith, the daughters of Mike Smith and Ellison and Erin Barnes, the daughters of Eric Barnes.
Jared Haugh mentioned the upcoming Exchange Club golf outing on Friday, June 21st at Spring Lake Country Club. The cost is $40 per person. Even if you can't play we will still hold our meeting there on the 21st. Contact Jared if interested in playing.
It was also revealed that Kevin Curran took a bride during Gus Macker and was celebrating his honeymoon in California. Congrats to Kevin.
Chuck Venvertloh conducted the 50/50 drawing which was worth $1034. The ticket belonged to Sonny Christner but he drew the King of Clubs so the pot grows even more next week. It will be hard to find a better looking person to draw the winning ticket than who we had last week. Any argument?
Good to see Tim Wiewel back with us. Also, anyone notice that Rich Howell did not leave early last Friday? Could it be the speaker who made him stay?
Just a reminder about delinquent dues. Please take care of that as soon as possible.
Our Flag Day event is set. We will once again have our family picnic on the evening of June 12th. The shelter house at Madison Park has been reserved and Dan Veihl and The Butcher Block will cater our meal with free shaved ice provided by Gengenbacher Ice. You are invited to join us for the meal which starts at 5:30 and then when the concert starts we'll pass out the flags to the audience in the park.
