Jared Haugh presented two prayers. The first included thoughts and prayers for Dick Wentura's family who is now dealing with the news of Dick's son in law, Don Briddle, being diagnosed with bone cancer. The other prayer centered on Kevin Curran heading to Chicago.
Carlos Fernandez, with very little advance notice, eloquently belted out the first word of the Pledge of Allegiance which got the membership to recite the rest of the verbiage required.
Dave Poland will need members to pass out our little flags during the Dogwood Festival Parade on Saturday, May 4th. The Scouts from St. Francis will carry our huge flag as we lead off the parade. You will need to be at 24th and Maine at 9:15 with the parade starting at 9:30. Check Radio and TV in the event of inclement weather on the 4th.
Don't forget to make a recommendation of an organization that might be in need of a "large" donation from the Exchange Club. With funding available, the board is also looking for suggestions. If you have any ideas or suggestions please let a board member know before the next board meeting which is scheduled for May 13th at the Pier. You are welcomed to make your own pitch as well.
Curt Moore reminded us that the next Gus Macker meeting has been moved to the third floor of the Pier tonight (Tuesday at 5:30pm). Vic Welper reported that we are only a little over half way to our goal of 40 court sponsors. We have 22 as of this writing. Please make those contacts and secure sponsorships for this. If you don't know, a court sponsorship costs $300. Contact Vic or Cory Watson if you have any questions.
Don't forget we will hold our Annual Golden Deeds Award luncheon on May 10th. This year's winner is Jo Anne Witte, the Daughter in Law of former Exchange Club member Al "Buck" Witte.
A noticeably limping Chuck Venvertloh held the 50/50 drawing with Cullan Duke having the winning ticket. Cullan drew a 10 of hearts, but not the ace of spades, so the pot of $806 grows even more for next week. Chuck, after limping around, was reminded by Gary Peters that there is "talcum powder for that".
President Perry Terwelp asked for volunteers to help with the Quincy Medical Group's Bridge the Gap event on May 15th. The Q.M.G. is one of our major sponsors for Gus Macker so a few members volunteering might go a long way in reciprocating.
Perry also mentioned that Doug Greenwell was the winner of the NCAA Bracket contest and captured some greenbacks for doing so. Since Doug wasn't there, it was suggested by Mel Dillman that we spit it among the members because "Doug would want that". It didn't happen though, so the Greenwells get to keep their greenbacks.
Jared Haugh reminded everyone that we will be holding the Exchange Club Golf Tournament at Spring Lake Country Club on Friday, June 21st. ("Fore")
