Club Meets at Noon each Friday at America's Best Value Inn
Good FridayThis Friday

It's Good Friday so we will NOT be holding a meeting this Friday. As the late Paul Clarkson and John Tripp would have said "....see you in Church". Hidden cameras will be placed at the A.B.V.I. to see who shows up on Friday anyway..
Friday Last, Part I
Mike Lavery

Last Friday the topics were Gus Macker and QND Girls Basketball. Scott McNeal, the founder of Gus Macker Basketball visited us and talked about the upcoming Gus Macker Basketball Tournament in Quincy and the Gus Macker Hall of Fame in Belding, Michigan. That Hall of Fame has 42 members and it grew by one more as the Exchange Club's very own Mike Lavery will soon become number 43. Mike was announced by Scott McNeal as the latest entry into the Hall for his tireless work in bringing the Macker to Quincy and for his continued involvement in making it the Club's major fundraiser to benefit our community. That announcement brought the membership to its feet for a well-deserved ovation for Mike.

For those who don't know the history, Gus Macker Basketball will be coming to Quincy for the 23rd consecutive year on May 25 and 26 at Washington Park. Gus Macker itself is celebrating its 40th year of existence since its founding in Lowell, Michigan in 1974. Macker basketball probably would never have happened if it weren't for Mike Lavery. The Quincy event actually began in 1990 when Mike attended another Macker tournament and brought the idea to the Quincy Exchange Club which held its initial event in 1991. It was an idea that has raised thousands of dollars for the betterment of the Quincy Community. All of the monies raised from Gus Macker are used for the local projects of the Exchange Club.

Mike will join other notables including Indiana Coach Tom Crean and Sports Illustrated senior writer Alexander Wolff. He will be inducted at the 2013 Macker Anniversary Festival on August 1st through August 4th in Belding, Michigan. Congratulations to Quincy's own Mr. Macker.... Mike Lavery.

Friday Last, Part II

QND Girls
Part two of our meeting centered on the highly successful Quincy Notre Dame Lady Raider Basketball team. Eric Ervin, the play-by-play announcer for WGEM Radio discussed the success of the Lady Raider basketball program with the entire team in attendance at the meeting. David Adam, the other half of the WGEM play-by-play team handled the introduction. If you ever wondered just how good this team was and has been, it was documented by their statistics revealed by Mr. Ervin. The QND Girls were only the 4th teamin history to win 3 straightchampionships. They were the first team to win consecutive titles in different classes (2A and 3A). Over the last 4 years QND was 124 and 5. They were 94 and 2 over the last 3 years as well. Their post season record was 27 and 1 and had a margin of victory of 32.3 points per game over their opponents and in the last four years they have outscored their opponents by a total of 4100 points. Coach Eric Orne was in attendance and fielded some questions and offered the most important statistic of all and that was that the collective team grade point average for the girls was 3.82 on a scale of 4.0.

4/8 - Board meeting at the Pier (11:45 start)

This & That

The meeting commenced (that means started) with a prayer from Mayor John Spring followed by a pledge utterance from David Adam since the president refused to do it (see previous bulletin). Steve Peters twisted the tails and told a church bulletin joke that he wish he hadn't after a lack of laughter by the membership.

President Perry Terwelp thanked Jared Haugh for his organizing the recent Burger-less Bash at Cedar Crest Country Club. Perry also thanked Tim Wiewel, Steve Peters and Skip Rueter for their help with preparing the great tasting food for the evening. If you weren't there you missed out.

Jeff Dorsey was congratulated on organizing a successful St. Patrick's Parade.

Perry announced that the Club could use some members for the upcoming YMCA Mississippi Mud Mania event on June 8th. Rick Gengenbacher and Perry will be co-chairing the event.

Chuck Venvertloh conducted the card draw and for the second week in a row Curt Moore had the winning ticket but drew the wrong card. He drew the 9 of spades (same card he drew last week according to Curt...What gives Chuck?). The pot was determined after the meeting to be at $623 after Chuck discussed his vacation plans with his wife. (just kidding, but if you come back with a tan???).

The meeting featured appearances from representatives from our Macker sponsors Pepsi, Quincy Medical Group, WGEM and the Quincy Herald Whig. Other guests included Carly Gengenbacher, daughter of Rick and Nick Neuser, a nephew of Rich Lavery..
