This Friday the topic will be "Reflections on a Dynasty" as Coach Eric Orne and Eric Ervin, the play-by-play announcer for WGEM Radio discuss the success of the Lady Raider basketball program at Quincy Notre Dame High School. The entire team will be in attendance. David Adam, the other half of the WGEM play-by-play team will handle the introduction. Mr. Macker, Scott McNeil, will also join us this Friday.

Mark Aleman

Mark Aleman stepped up on short notice to be our speaker and he spoke about the upcoming YMCA Mud Mania event on June 8th. The service clubs in the area have been challenged to be a part of this event and Rick Gengenbacher and Perry Terwelp have agreed to co-captain our team. A traveling trophy is involved with this 5K (3.1 mile) obstacle course. Teams will be graded based upon age, weight and total amount of team members. Mark anticipates several thousand people will be a part of the event which will be held near the KOA camp site on Bonasinga Drive. Registration of teams is underway with a cost of $35 for adults and $20 for children.

This & That

Jared Haugh presented the gospel according to Jared and Travis Brown, looking down for the first word written on his palm, began the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Perry Terwelp mentioned several donations the club made at the recent board meeting. Those donations included $500 to the Eagle Scout Banquet, $250 to the Advocacy Network and $200 for the Time Out Teddy Costume which cost $4000. Ameren through a grant has provided $2,000 towards its purchase. Perry also announced that the Club has secured a visit by Miss Illinois on May 3rd, a revelation that drew a happy applause. The club also received thank you notes from a couple of previous speakers (one was Patty Adam and I did not catch the name of the other). Perry also mentioned that a couple of members are recuperating from medical procedures. Fred Lauder with a heart catheter and Dan Niemann with shoulder surgery. Hopefully both will be back with us soon. President Perry Terwelp also presented new member Cory Watson with his official membership certificate.

We had one special guest and that was the new GREDF Executive Director Marcel Wagner Jr. who I found out is a fellow New York Yankee fan. I don't know the man but I like him already. He was introduced to the membership by Travis Brown.

Jared Haugh collected the final signup sheets for the BBQ Stag. If you didn't sign up and want to go contact Jared. He might be able to still get you in. The event is at Cedar Crest this Wednesday, March 20th.

Jeff Dorsey invited the membership to attend last Saturday's 27th Annual St. Patrick's Parade which had 90+ entries this year.

Steve Green, pinch hitting for Mike Lavery, announced that Pepsi, Titan Wheel, Quincy Medical Group, WGEM and the Quincy Herald Whig were all major sponsors for the upcoming Gus Macker Basketball Tournament.

Vic Welper also discussed the need for court sponsors for Gus Macker and passed out several proposals to members to renew from last year. He also asked everyone to add one more to their list to help reach our goal. Vic also announced that Cory Watson has stepped up to assist Vic this year with this responsibility. Thanks Cory!

Curt Moore announced that the next Macker meeting will be Tuesday at The Dock at 5:30. Everyone is welcomed to attend.

Chuck Venvertloh handled the card draw which was worth $560. Curt Moore had the right ticket but drew a 10 of Diamonds so the pot grows a few more inches (I mean a few more dollars).

Steve Peters conducted the tail-twisting duties and turned it into a joke fest with the winning table getting their dollar paid for by Steve. Somehow the funniest joke came from the table with the least people sitting at it. Go figure! Not complaining since it was my table. Thanks Steve.

Just a note to let you know that the Golden Deeds Awards Banquet is coming up in a few weeks and nomination letters can be sent to Dave Rees at d-rees@sbcglobal.net. Nomination letters can also be sent to the club at Quincy Exchange Club, PO Box 1163, Quincy IL 62306-1163. Be thinking of someone who would be a wonderful recipient.
