Friday Last

Patty AdamsPatty Adam and Jamie Obert visited us from Birthright last Friday. Patty has been at Birthright for 30 years and Jamie is a volunteer for the organization. Patty also took the opportunity to say that Friday was the 7th anniversary of her being cancer free. Yes!!! Some great news. Birthright is a crisis pregnancy service organization and is now located in their relatively new office at 12th and Broadway in Quincy. Birthright has been assisting young women in the area with confidential pregnancy testing, maternity and baby clothing, emotional support, and has been a provider of information and referrals. Birthright services are absolutely free and completely confidential. They are funded solely by private donations. They are there for women who are pregnant, worried, scared, confused and are in need of help. Their clients range from 12 to 40+ years of age. Patty shared an e-mail from a frightened client as an example of the condition some of their clients are in emotionally. Look for Birthright to have a float in the upcoming Dogwood Festival Parade on May 4th. Thanks to Chuck Venvertloh for pinch hitting for David Adam with the introduction.

Student of the Month
Measha Ferguson-Smith
Measha
The Exchange Club meeting also saw the presentation of the February Student of the Month which had been delayed for a few weeks. The recipient was Measha Ferguson-Smith from Quincy Senior High School. Measha has a grade point average of 4.5652 which is 4 points higher than the collective average of the Exchange Club. She is ranked third in her class of 469 students. Among the activities she is involved in are National Honor Society, Beta Club, Varsity Basketball, RISE, Varsity Track and Field, Concert Band, Marching Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band. She is also a Questbridge College Prep Scholor, High Honor Roll, the recipient of the Robert E. Meyer Award for Educational Excellence, Society for Academic Achievement, and the winner of the President's Award for Educational Excellence. She also serves as a tutor/mentor at Baldwin school, is active in Youth Study Circle and is an aid for the 929 Food Pantry. Her plans are to attend Stanford University in California after she graduates in May. Her proud parents are Marla Ferguson and Mike Smith. Mike Llewellyn handled the introduction with QHS Principal Danielle Edgar in attendance.

3/20 - Burger Bash at Cedar Crest

This & That

Jared Haugh performed the prayer for the group with the Reverend Ron Fritts on bent knee throughout it. Fritts was ready to "pinch hit" if need be. (Can you tell I am ready for baseball season to start).

Kent Anderson was right on cue with the beginning of the Pledge of Allegience followed by the rest of the club members who continue to remember the rest of the words.

Jared, after catching his breath, reminded everyone of the signup sheets on the tables for the Club's Burger Bash at Cedar Crest Country Club on Wednesday, March 20th. Signup sheets will be on the tables again Friday. If you cannot make Friday's meeting and want to go contact Jared at 577-4026 or at www.dukhaugh@adams.net. Friends are welcomed to attend so invite some if you have any.

Dan Niemann reminded everyone that he is selling tickets to win a Honda ATV as a fundraiser for Quanada.

Chuck Venvertloh handled the card draw which was worth $522. Jeff Dorsey (that be me) had the correct ticket but drew a 6 of hearts. The $522 would have come in handy for my first day tab at spring training in Jupiter.

Jeff Dorsey handled the tail-twisting and told a joke with a moral about being on time. The joke dealt with a politician being late for his speech at a church. He even invited Rich Lavery to stand in front of the group as the poster child for tardiness

Line of the Week

Belongs to Perry Terwelp who mentioned that due to the length of the Mayors address the previous week, the Mayor would stay after today's meeting to answer any questions not asked last week "as long as they weren't about Hydro-power.
