The meeting got off to a partisan start with Mayor John Spring handling the prayer with a slight "shot" at the Cubs in it. You know God may very well be a Cubs fan. He's used to dealing with losers so it wouldn't surprise me. In a sad note, Perry also mentioned the passing of Steven Rueter, the son of Barb and Skip Rueter. Our thoughts and prayers are with Barb and Skip and their family.
Art Awerkamp, last seen leaving the Hy-Vee parking lot on Saturday, February 2nd at 7:25pm (time of store robbery), uttered the initial word to begin the Pledge of Allegiance.
Steve Peters handled the Tail Twisting duties with an assist from Rick Cole while Steve "read" a joke.
According to Tony Nutt, our Gus Macker Chairman, the first Gus Macker meeting went very well even without Tony being there. The next one is set for Wednesday, February 20th at 5:30 at The Dock. All members are welcomed to attend.
Dan Niemann mentioned the upcoming Wild Game Feed event in Mt. Sterling on March 30th. Dan has $10 tickets for sale to win an ATV to benefit Quanada.
The 50/50 drawing winning ticket was owned by Paul Terwelp. Paul drew an 8 of clubs so the pot of $522 goes even higher. The words "pot" and "higher" in the same sentence seems to go together, doesn't it?
President Perry Terwelp, dressed in his Cardinal attire, mentioned the fact that QND Grad Jack Cornell was back in town after his team, the Baltimore Ravens, won the Super Bowl. Perry also recognized Zeke Cernea for the nice article on him in the Quincy Herald Whig. He also mentioned the work done on the revised Exchange Club web page with kudos to Eric Thomas and Joel Koch for their efforts.
The guest list was long as expected:
Amanda Brown and Joel Swisher were guests of Frank Hays, Jeff Miller was a guest of Art Awerkamp, Frank Bange was a guest of Curt Moor, Joel Adam was a guest of David Adam, Dick Klimstra was a guest of Hal Broadwater, Ed Schuering was a guest of Mayor John Spring, and Coach Sean Taylor was a guest of Tony Nutt. Media guests included Bob Gough of quincyjournal.com, John Potts of the Herald-Whig, and Bill Shuler of KHMO Radio and WGEM-TV.
My apologies if I left someone out.
