Club Meets at Noon each Friday at America's Best Value Inn
This Friday

Rick Hummel It has been rescheduled for this Friday, the annual "Hot Stove" baseball meeting featuring former Quincy High School graduate Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Rick has followed the St. Louis Cardinals and Major League Baseball for years and has been a frequent guest on many sports talk shows around the country including ESPN. Rick has a new book out about Tony LaRussa called "One Last Strike". We will give away a few copies of it on Friday. Get there early!

Tyler Marquardt Our speaker was Tyler Marquardt, a product designer at the Knapheide Corporation in Quincy. Tyler, who is 26 years of age and a 2004 graduate of Quincy Senior High School, has received a patent for his invention...a Door View Manager. It is Tyler's hope that hotels and motels around the world will be interested in his product which will replace the door knob placards used by many places today. His invention took five years to make and he then applied for a patent which took a year to receive. He took the Door View Manager to a trade show in Las Vegas and signed a contract with the CSL Company who deals with hotels around the world. Right now, the Best Western and Wyndham Hotel chains are very interested in Tyler's invention. Its cost is only approximately $35 per unit and should fit any doorknob.

Character Champions

2012 Character Champions
Jim Totsch gave us a rundown on the Character Champions program which is now in its 9th year. The program, which won a national award at the 2009 Exchange Club National Convention, named Southeastern High School as the 2011-2012 High School winner and Payson-Seymour as the 2011-2012 Junior High winner. Jim then introduced Daron Duke to handle the announcements for the individual winners. Those winners were: Ariann Ippensen from Payson Seymour High School. Ariann is the daughter of Brian and Penny Ippenson. Haylee McNay of Quincy Senior High School . Haylee is the daughter of Jane and Steve McNay. Mathew Ramsey from Southeastern High School. Mathew is son of Rick and Cindy Ramsey. The final individual winner was Andrew Doyle of Unity High school. Andrew is the son of Brad and Melinda Doyle.

Student of the Month
Steven Musholt

Steve MusholtQND's Steven Musholt was honored by the Exchange Club as the Student of the Month.  Steven is the son of new club member Alan and Carolyn Musholt. John Johannes had the honors of introducing QND Principal Mark McDowell (equipped with his official Exchange Club notebook) who spoke highly of our recipient. Steven is a member of the Society for Academic Achievement, the German Club, the National Honor Society and the Quiz Bowl Team.  Steven is currently the President of the Executive Student Council after serving as its Vice-President last year. He has earned 150 volunteer hours when only 40 are required.  He is also a past volunteer for the Gus Macker Tournament and assisted with a recent Honor Flight for our veterans.  His intentions are to attend a military academy, and is leaning toward the U.S. Naval Academy.

This & That

Our meeting began with a prayer from Jared Haugh which even impressed the Reverend Ron Fritts.

Kevin Curran had the dubious honor of following dramatic scripture reading with initiating Pledge of Allegiance. His "I" to start it may have been one of the more forceful I have ever heard. It was much louder than his previous "I Do's" in his life. Believe it or not, the members knew the rest of the words to complete the pledge.

Bruce Broemmel navigated very well through the members collecting a dollar as the tail-twister even as the club was being shown its new web page. Bruce looked over the audience and thought better of telling the joke he had in mind. Maybe next week.

Eric Thomas took quite a bit of flack for a failed start to a computer driven presentation on the Club's new web page. He even got charged a buck from Bruce who was tail-twisting at the same time. Tough Friday for Eric. Seriously, Eric has done a great job in getting our web site up to speed which we need to succeed with our future events. Thanks to new webmaster Joel Koch for assisting with the presentation. (See Sidebar) If you want to change or add a picture please let Joel know.

Eric Schultz had the winning ticket but drew a Queen of Hearts in the 50/50 drawing. The pot was worth $485 so it is getting up there. We just might be seeing some Exchangites we haven't seen for a while. Thanks to Chuck Venvertloh for handling the drawing.

Brian Musholt, proud uncle of our Student of the Month, had Jeff Kroencke as his guest at the meeting.

The first Gus Macker meeting will be held at The Dock on Wednesday, February 6th at 5:30pm. All members are welcomed to attend. There will be beer available.

The password to get into the member section is exchange (case sensitive). Please check your information - we have most of it, but we are missing some information on some members. Also, if want a different picture (or in some cases a picture), either e-mail one to Joel, or he will take one at a meeting. You can e-mail Joel here.

We're always looking for pictures from events (past and present) and ways to make the site better. If you see something that doesn't look right or have a correction, please let Joel know.
