Our speakers, Kurt Stuckman, the Quincy Notre Dame Development Director and Jeff Agard, the IT Director at QND, updated us on the 2013 learning process being used at QND. In this changing world of education, Quincy Notre Dame made a significant investment in purchasing iPads for all students at QND. The process leading up to that decision began some 6 years ago when a technology committee was formed to gather feedback from QND families and students as to just what the students wanted. What resulted was the development of a graphic design class at QND. The students loved it and the committee starting looking at future things that would be needed. What came from that was a 30 page technological plan for development at QND which included funding ideas to make it happen. The iPads resulted with the focus on the development of the students learning skills. Before the students could get the iPads, the instructors needed training with them as well so QND, with the help of Apple, provided comprehensive training for the teachers in advance. The iPads have made students learn in real time instead of relying on books which are outdated by the time they even come out. They have also made the students more organized as well. All of the iPads are filtered and controlled by the school to prevent students from gaining access to certain unwarranted sites. It's a far cry from when we all went to school for sure, but it is the way of the present and of the future as well. Thanks to Kurt and Jeff for a great program.

This & That

Ron Fritts was asked to bless the group which Lord knows is almost an unreasonable request. He handled it with grace and a grammar correction from one Mel Dillman.

Eric Thomas began the pledge with the word "I" and believe it or not, the guys actually took it from there.

Chuck Venvertloh handled the 50-50 drawing flawlessly with Vic Welper holding the winning ticket. Vic, with some 75 people in the room had 74 rooting against him, drew a 4 of spades. The pot grows again to over $385 which is what it was worth last Friday.

President Perry Terwelp began the meeting criticizing Jeff Dorsey for wanting all TV's to be on the Miss America Pageant instead of football on Saturday. To which Dorsey said, "is there a problem with that?" You can tell who is in a relationship and who isn't.

Perry also mentioned the thank you card we received from the Hearing Impaired Class with each one of the kids sending us a Christmas card thanking us for inviting them to be with Santa last month. Art Awerkamp received thanks for handling that program for us.

Randy Frese handled the tail twisting chores and presented Dick Wentura a magazine about "poop". I have no idea what that was about other than he might be getting tired of Dick asking all of the "good" questions.

With no sweater vests in the audience, so all were charged a buck as it should be.

Just a reminder that with Ric Hummel visiting us on the 25th, please let me know if you plan on bringing a guest to the popular "Hot Stove" meeting so we can let the folks at JJ's know of the addition food that will be needed that day.The media and the coaches have all been invited already.
