This Friday

This Friday we will all learn about the newest learning technology being used at Quincy Notre Dame High School. The days of rulers and protractors are long gone and our speakers, Kurt Stuckman and Jeff Agard, will update us on the 2013 learning process being used at QND.  Join us this Friday at America's Best Value Inn for Quincy's finest hour!

Bev SimmonsOur speaker was Bev Simmons of Family Planning at 636 Hampshire in Quincy with President Perry Terwelp providing the introduction. Bev showed a video and had pamphlets at each table for the member to take home and use as a way to open up discussions with your children or grandchildren about planning a pregnancy before it becomes an unexpected one. Bev also wanted to make sure we were aware that Family Planning does not perform abortions, which apparently is a misconception of many (pardon the pun complements of Gary Peters). Family Planning is also for men as well, not just women. They serve clients from Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri and are funded by the Federal Government thru a Title Ten grant. They do charge for their services on a sliding scale and will not turn anyone away because they cannot afford to pay. They are required to discuss three options if someone is pregnant. One being carry the baby out to full term and become the parent, carry it out to full term and give the baby up for adoption and the third being abort the pregnancy, which they do not encourage. The trend of pregnant Adams County teens is heading downward. Last year there were 105 pregnant teens of which 92 were unwed mothers and 16 of those 92 were carrying their second child. So, as you can see is more information needed to get out to the teens in the area. Family Planning sees approximately 1800 clients every year and has some 5600 visits from people to their office annually. Their main focus is to inform their clients before becoming pregnant and they try to do so by meeting with people in hospitals, schools and other teen locations. Their goal is to help people to "plan their pregnancies" so they won't be unexpected.

This & That

Jim Benz led us in prayer and Doug Greenwell, checking his palm for the first two words of the Pledge of Allegiance written on it, got the brethren to assist him. Bruce Broemmel handled the tail twisting without his cane which was a good sign to see. Rick Gengenbacher saved his buck by getting a pardon from Bruce for wearing a sweater vest. Rick now plans to wear it every week. Good luck on that working Rick. Rich Zeider and Kevin Curran handled the 50/50 drawing and Gary Peters had the winning ticket for the $350 pot. Gary drew the 8 of diamonds so the pot grows (not what the Sheriff wants to hear). President Perry Terwelp presented Mike Elbe and Alan Musholt their Membership Certificates. It was such a moving event, there wasn't a dry eye in the place.

Belongs to Sonny Christner who mentioned that the Right and sometimes Wrong "Reverend Ron Fritt's sermon was so inspirational Sunday that even Mel Dillman was saved... at least 'til Tuesday (morning)."
