Our 50th Anniversary of the Exchange Club's Hearing Impaired Christmas Program was held. The program wDeaf kids 2012aas started by the late Exchangite, Judge Edward Dittmeyer and carried on for years by former Exchangite Bob Moss.

The youngsters performed their annual play for the club members. Then the excitement built to a crescendo when Santa made his annual appearance. After signing "Merry Christmas", which Santa found a way to Santa 2012bmess up two years ago, he made his way around the membership and announced that Les Sachs had finally made the good boy list, Dick Wentura finally asked a "good" question, and Mayor John Spring would be the pilot for the additional Cape Air flights this month.  Santa then talked to all the kids and asked them what they wanted for Christmas. Some kids were even wished a "Happy Birthday" instead of "Merry Christmas". Someone must have spiked Santa's eggnog before the meeting. Each child was given a gift by Santa's not so little elf, Art Awerkamp, who was the chairman for the event. Prior to SanDeaf Kids 2012cta's arrival, Art presented a check for $750 to the Hearing Impaired Program Coordinator Katie Stegner. Katie announced the money would go toward the purchase of needed cameras for the program. A big thank you to County Market for their donation of $200 for the gifts Santa handed out (elves must be on strike) and to Katie for the sign language assistance for Santa.

This & That

Mayor John Spring got things going with the prayer followed by Bob Hayes belting out the National Anthem, I mean Pledge of Allegiance (told you the eggnog was spiked). Since Bruce Broemmel failed to bring the proper cane to the meeting (a wooden one instead of candy cane) we did not twist tails. President Perry thanked Dan Selby for chairing the very successful Abundance Exchange event. Dan then thanked the some 50 members who turned out to assist as some 300 plus people went through the tables. Dan also thanked Bob Hays, Kurt Frageman, and Mike McLaughlin who were there the whole day. Signup sheets were again on the table for the Spouse's Christmas Party which is set for December 21st at the Holiday Inn. The social hour is at 6, dinner at 6:30 and entertainment at 7:30 that evening..

Perry held a second reading for potential new member Cory Watson, sponsored by Dick Wentura. The Club approved, so bring him in.

Perry also announced that we lost a major sponsor, The Union Difference, for Gus Macker. Perry mentioned that Mike Lavery would like to see more input in the Major Sponsor Committee at least in the form of contacts that can be utilized to gain new sponsors for the event. Now is the time to contact potential sponsors as budgets are being formulated by businesses now for next year.

Perry also announced that Mel Dillman has agreed to chair the Smoke on the River event in September. Mel announced that apparently there is a second KCBS BBQ event coming to Quincy and it will be held at the K of C on July 20th and 21st.

The Club presented our wonderful waitress Jennifer Shaffer a check for $780 as a Christmas "Bonus" from the membership. We all waited for the annual kiss but it never came as President Terwelp turned as red as his shirt during the presentation.

There was no 50/50 drawing with Santa in the house. At last report the pot was nearing $300. Remember Rick Hummel's visit to the club will be on January 25th so plan now on inviting a guest for his appearance.

Thoughts go out to Dave Grimm, who lost his sister in law last week. And prayers and well wishes go to Mike Smith's mother who is ill.
