No Meeting This Friday
We will NOT be meeting this Friday so we can all enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday with our families and friends. With that said, I got $100 that says someone will show up thinking there is a meeting Friday. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. |

Friday Last
We had our annual visit of the high school coaches with us last Friday. Sean Taylor and Demond Dade of QHS and Scott Douglas and Eric Orne of QND all spoke about their teams and season ahead. Thanks to Rick Gengenbacher for setting up the program and handling the introductions with some humor
The QHS Girls program has a goal of winning the Western Big Six Conference title while having all the girls keep their good grades. Coach Dade, in his first year as head coach, mentioned the stages of developing the program for years to come with the program working with students from the 2nd grade on. The QHS girls have 8 seniors on the teams and it bodes well for a fine season ahead especially after winning their first game of the season.
Coach Sean Taylor, with a record of 163 and 86 at QHS going into the season and an overall record of 430 and 188, is in his 11th season as head coach of the Blue Devil boys program and 23rd overall for his career which includes a state championship on his resume. For the first time in years the Blue Devils have some significant height to work with in hopes of making some noise in the Western Big Six Conference.
Coach Eric Orne takes an amazing record of 304 wins and 73 losses into the season for the QND Lady Raiders including back to back state titles. He has 3 starters returning but lost 9 players from last year's team so a third consecutive e state title will be a challenge.
Coach Scott Douglas has a career record of 339 wins and 103 losses entering this season which will be his 18th at QND. He will have a much shorter team than he anticipated do to one of last year's tallest players transferring to QHS which Scott took friendly jabs toward Coach Taylor about. He does have a large senior class on his roster for this season. Hopefully their experience will offset their lack of height. |

Student of the Month
Maxwell Matson, QHS
We also featured the November Student of the Month which was Maxwell Matson of Quincy Senior High School. Mike Llewellyn began the program by introducing Chad Struck of Quincy Senior High who provided the official introduction of Maxwell. Maxwell has a grade point average of 4.54 and an ACT score of 34. He is also a member of the Jazz Band, Concert Orchestra and the Quincy Community Theatre. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Math Team, Beta Club President and a member of the Scholastic Bowl. He would like to major in Chemical Engineering and is undecided about his future school plans. His proud parents, William and Lora Matson were also in attendance along with QHS Principal Danielle Edgar. |

Abundance Exchange
National Day of Service Project
In a busy meeting, we also heard from Victoria Taylor and Angel Smith of Unity Church of Quincy. They gave the Club the rundown on the upcoming Abundance Exchange event (the Club's National Day of Service project) on December 7th and 8th at the Oakley Lindsay Center. Dan Selby provided the introduction and asked for volunteers to sign up for a few hours on one or both of those days. With some 1000 to 1500 people expected to go through the event, we will be needing some help to assist the brethren of Unity Church with this project. |

This & That
The meeting began with a prayer from Mike Lavery followed by the Pledge of Allegiance start from Dan Niemann who was exquisite with the first two words followed by the rest of us. Jeff Dorsey had the dubious honor of fleecing the flock as Tail Twister.
It was good to see Bruce Broemmel back with us after surgery. Don't get him mad, he now has a cane to use on you.
Mel Dillman thanked Curt Moore, Tony Nutt, Eric Thomas, Carlos Fernandez, Jeff Dorsey, Steve Labs and Rick Gengenbacher for their help with the Club's program last week, the Veteran's parade, the Veteran's breakfast at Hy-Vee and the Veteran's program at the Illinois Veteran's Home. Mel also mentioned the nice letter we received from the Parade Committee for our assistance in securing the flyover of the B-25 during the parade.
President Perry Terwelp announced to the group that the proposal to make some changes to Smoke on the River failed at the recent board meeting. And that the Club donated $800 to the Salvation Army to cover the cost of some of the Thanksgiving Dinner that they put on for the community.
Chuck Venvertloh handled the card draw (minus his Rolex watch). With the pot "finally" over $200 ($219 to be precise), Mike Lavery had the opportunity to win it but drew the 8 of spades.
A reminder that November 30th will be the date for the Give a Kid a Chance Foster Kids/Parents Dinner at the Quincy Senior Center. We can use a few members to assist with the serving at 6:30 that night. Contact Charlie Ledbetter if you can help with the meal and assist Santa. |
