This & That
Ron Fritts started things out with the prayer and thanked God that the election is just about over which got a delayed but rousing "Amen" from the brethren. Brian Musholt rode elevators all day at Hollister Whitney trying to memorize the first two words of the Pledge of Allegiance. It paid off as he was assisted by the rest of the club to complete it. Rick Gengenbacher handled the tail twisting duties which included a lame question about why there is no B-26 Bomber.
Our guests included Reg Ankrom and Gary Sparks, guests of Mayor John Spring.
President Perry Terwelp had a first reading of new member prospect Alan Musholt (3rd different Musholt mentioned in this bulletin...not sure if or how they are related). Perry also thanked an absent Carlos Fernandez (who just returned from another Honor Flight) for his handling of the Firefighter(s) of the Year program last week. He also apologized to KHQA for the Club's failure to notify them in advance of that program. Seems their e-mail address was not on our mailing list. That has been corrected. President Terwelp also announced that the Spouse's Christmas Party will be held at the Holiday Inn on December 21st. It could be the last party ever held since that's the day the world is supposed to be coming to an end according to the Mayan Calendar.
Perry also reminded everyone that this past Tuesday was not the only election in November as the Club will vote at the board meeting on November 12th on the proposal for changes to Smoke on the River. The meeting is set for 11:45 at the Pier Restaurant (3rd floor). If you can't make it please let a board member know how you would like to vote on this issue. The vote is open to all members, not just board members. (If you normally don't attend the board meetings and plan to join us, please let Perry know so that there is enough food and seating - Lunch is $10)
Jeff Dorsey announced that the Exchange Club will be entry number 41 in the Veteran's Parade this Saturday. We will carry our large flag down Maine Street and will need about 15 guys to do that. He also revealed that the parade will feature a flyover of a B-25 (not 26). The Parade committee's cost to pull that off is $2,000. They have raised almost $1,600 so the Club agreed to pick up the remaining cost to enable them to schedule the flyover. So when the bomber flies over Maine Street Saturday morning you can be proud knowing you had something to do with that happening.
Don't forget about coming to the Veteran's Day Ceremony at Lippencott Hall this Sunday. The program begins at 10am and an Exchange Club presence would be wonderful.
Charlie Ledbetter announced that November 30th will be the date for the Give a Kid a Chance Foster Kids/Parents Dinner at the Quincy Senior Center Charlie can use a few members to assist with the serving at 6:30 that night.
Ron Fritts thanked the Mayor for his assistance in securing the Oakley Lindsay Center as the location for the Club's Abundance Exchange Event which will be held on December 7th and 8th. Volunteers will be needed with Dan Selby as the contact person.
Art Awerkamp advised the club that the Hearing Impaired Christmas Party would be held on Friday, December 14th. Hope somebody tells Santa that.
Chuck Venvertloh, sporting a brand new Rolex, handled the Card Draw with the pot still at $200. Chuck's got some splainen to do! Skip Rueter had the winning ticket but drew an Ace of Diamonds. So either the pot grows or Chuck will be wearing something else new next week. |
