Friday Last
Former Exchangite, the late Jay Kelly would have been proud to watch his son, Chris, and his lovely bride, Victoria, inform the club about their company "Table 16 Productions". Chris and Victoria work together on products like corporate videos and TV commercials. They both showed a passion for their work as they talked about working video creations for businesses not only locally but also in larger markets like St. Louis and Dallas. One of their videos, the Vision Challenge Video, was featured last season at Busch Stadium on their video screen. The Kelly's pride themselves on producing movies, videos, and commercials that utilize their "out of the box" mentality and creativity. They recently received the "Best Crime Drama Award" in competition in Ohio. Their latest film deals with a love triangle featuring a mad man, a silent killer, and a ghost. It lasts approximately 80 minutes and it took some 200 hours of video to produce it. Right now, they are a small operation but look for great things to come from this couple. Travis Brown handled the introduction. |

Youth of the Month
Natalie Standley
Dr. Lenny Biallas introduced Quincy Notre Dame High School Principal Mark McDowell who in turn introduced the October Student of the Month. Our winner was Natalie Standley of QND. Natalie is involved in many organizations including the Marching Band, the Concert Band, Dance, Varsity Quiz Bowl, Spanish Club and TEC. She is a writer for the student newspaper, a member of the National Honor Society, an All-American Cheerleader for the past two years and is the Captain of the QND Cheerleading team. She is also a four year member of the Student Council and has a positive attitude, strong character, and is a great role model according to Principal McDowell. Her future plans for education are still undecided but she is leaning toward going to Bradley University in Peoria. She thanked the Club for the award as well as the students and faculty at QND for giving her a feeling of "family". Speaking of family, her proud parents, Greg and Debbie Standley were in attendance as well. |

This & That
Meeting started a few minutes early with lots on the agenda. Mike Lavery led us in prayer with Randy Frese initiating (that means starting) the pledge. It was not "a paid political announcement" either. Jeff Dorsey (that would be me) handled the tail twisting duties and took quite a bit of grief from the brethren on the Yankees losing (where are you Tripp when I need you), my Pillsbury Dough Boy physique, and a lousy Halloween joke. How no one got charged an extra buck is beyond me.
Club member and Quincy University Basketball Coach, Marty Bell, was on hand to receive a check from the Club for $500 for the basketball team's assistance with "Smoke on the River". He announced the money would go toward the expenses of his team's recent trip to Canada where he complained about the officiating (at least at my table he did). He should have known he was in trouble when they dropped the puck to start the game instead of a basketball.
Mel Dillman was working hard on a cruise ship last week getting things lined up for the Veteran's Program on November 9th. He is looking to invite veterans to the program. If you would like to invite a veteran, please e-mail Mel so he can recognize them at the meeting. He will answer your e-mail once he finishes his margaritas.
The meeting culminated (that means finished) with Dennis Koch's proposal to make some changes to Smoke on the River. Dennis was asked by the board to present his proposal to the membership which he did and took some questions related to his proposal. Included with the bulletin is a survey Dennis has prepared for the membership. Dennis had devoted quite a bit of time and effort into this proposal for the club to review. Please take the time to look at the survey and get it back as soon as possible. The proposal will be put to a vote at the next Board Meeting which is set for November 12th at 11:45 at the Pier Restaurant. Any member who shows up (not just board members) will have an opportunity to vote on the proposal at that meeting. There was no card draw (no time for it) last week so the pot "continues to grow" to less than $200. We will resume it Friday. |

Quote of the Week
Complements of our speaker Chris Kelly who said that he does what he does for the love of it. He said he isn't going to make a million dollars with his movies right now, but wouldn't mind it because
"she (Victoria) likes nice things". |

Your Response Needed!
You've heard the proposal for Smoke on the River. If you haven't, here's the short version:
2013 would be held at Moorman Park with a maximum of 25 teams, making it a KCBS State Championship and automatic qualifier for the American Royal. The teams would sell product to the public.
We would bring in a big name entertainer for Saturday night and have fireworks. The rest of Friday and Saturday would be local entertainment. There would be an expanded family zone and comprehensive sponsor packages.
Budgeted income for the event is $32,000, but we need a lot of members to step up and be a part of the event to make it work.
Plan B is to stay where we are, tweak the event and try to get it up to $10,000 (it made $8k this year)
Because this is such a change, the Board needs to hear from you!
The Board members e-mail addresses are linked to their names above. Simply click on one of their names and send them an e-mail with your thoughts. It's a great opportunity for the club to do more for our community - but we need your help! Whether you are "fer" it or "agin" it, please let them know. Apathy will be interpreted as being against the proposal.
The Board must make a decision at the November meeting, as our application to KCBS has to be in by December 1.
Thanks for your help! |
