Every month, the AHA Insider showcases one of our employees. We want to give our readers an insight as to who works for AHA and what they do for the association.
Kim Nettleton
Hello and Happy New Year!
My name is Kim Nettleton and my title here at the Arabian Horse Association is Registry Services Representative. My daily responsibilities consist of creating new registrations for our Purebred, Half and Anglo-Arabians. I also help record Transfers of Ownership and Breeding Activity, and assist our members over the phone with their membership renewals and general inquiries. When AHA sets up the booth at our National Shows and Events, I am there to help our members face to face. Additionally, I am the Racing Representative, and I am responsible for registering Purebred Arabians for racing by issuing their ID Supplement. My newest project has been working with the marketing department to produce several tutorial videos geared toward creating a better understanding of the registration process. I am a firm believer in the importance of registration, and I enjoy helping our members and beloved Arabians every day!
I was born and raised in Colorado where I have fallen in love with the Rocky Mountains, the great outdoors, and the Denver Broncos. I attribute the majority of my equine experience to judging with the Colorado State University Arabian and Quarter Horse Judging Teams as well as managing a quarter horse production ranch and a paint and quarter horse pleasure show barn in Northern Colorado. When I am not in the office you can find me on a hike with my pit bull mix Tuco or promoting my father's secret family recipe BBQ Sauce at a local farmer's market. I am thankful for the opportunities Colorado and the AHA provide and I hope to stick around for years to come.

Today the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) launched the guest user portions of its newly designed, customer friendly and highly efficient website. The website's domain name remains www.arabianhorses.org and features a sleek and modern look and feel, with new colors, bold pictures and easy to read formats. The ease of navigation is extremely improved, with most pages requiring only one or two clicks to retrieve desired information. A robust set of tools for promotion and outreach, as well as member and customer interaction, have been designed to make the website easy to navigate, use and interact with AHA. Today's launch includes only the guest pages and portions of the new site. Guest pages, by definition, are pages that guest users have access to - pages that can be accessed without a password or logging in. Some of these new pages include the homepage; the Discover and Youth portals; a leadership section; a Judges and Stewards portal; a Get Involved section and Get Local map for AHA clubs to use as outreach tools; a newly designed Event Calendar, and much more! Current member/customer interaction with the website will change slightly. In order for AHA to better serve members and customers, password requirements for member/customer login have changed. For increased security and customer protection, AHA will no longer utilize a PIN system for login. Rather, a password, created by the member/customer, will be required. A current email address will need to be on file with the AHA office and associated with a member/customer account in order to use the new online 'Password Help' feature to reset a forgotten password. The password will require a minimum of eight (8) characters and a maximum of twenty (20), with at least one upper case and one lower case letter, along with a number. Members/customers will be prompted to change their PIN to a password upon their first attempt at logging into their member portal on or after today (January 16, 2016). A confirmation email of the change will then be sent. Once logged into their account, the member/customer portal pages will remain the same as they are now - the old design and layout. This is true of several other pages within the new site. New and old website pages will be intertwined, creating a user experience that shows off the new website portions, but is still fully accessible and functional to members and customers. Navigation between the old and new will be simple and not require accessing more than one site by the user. AHA's new website rebuild is part of a three year plan for AHA business transactions and financial system infrastructure upgrades, known as 'Future State.' Future State is projected to last through the year 2018 and is an implementation of new AHA business rules, including customer initiated, real-time, web delivered transactions; automated transactions to eliminate paper and speed up completion; the simplification of all business interactions with AHA members and customers, and much more. AHA is excited for members and customers to see the newly designed AHA website guest pages. If you are a current member or customer and find that you need assistance with changing your PIN to a password, please call our customer service representatives at 303.696.4500, option #2. Continue to look for updates and communication regarding the progress and status of AHA Future State, via AHA Insiders, e-blasts, social media and more.

Members Tales
A Story of Tragedy and Triumph
When Martha Beverly wants to do something, she has learned that you have to just go for it. She has a bucket list that she is determined to check each item off of. In 2015, she was able to do just that. At the age of 64, she won her first Top Ten at her first U.S. Nationals. She has been involved in horses most of her life in one way or another, but after a life-altering experience, she decided to live out her dreams.
Beverly bought her first Arabian horse 25 years ago and fell in love with the breed. She always had a couple of horses around, but between getting married and having children, horses became secondary. In the past 6 years, Beverly had a few incidents that have put life into a different perspective for her. Her son was diagnosed with a brain tumor and stage 4 cancer at the age of 25 and needed her to care for him and his two boys. She lost 5 close family members over a short time-span, became the caregiver to her brother-in-law, and had a niece pass away from pancreatic cancer. Through it all, she always had a dream of having another Arabian horse and riding with Tish Kondas from Showtime Training Center. Unexpectedly, in March 2013, Beverly went in for emergency surgery and was told she was an hour from dying. Upon recovering from surgery, Beverly decided that we are not promised tomorrow and that she needed to start on that bucket list of hers.
The first thing Beverly did was purchase an Arabian horse, Buddy, from Pam Harris. Next, she called Tish up and started taking lessons. It was definitely a struggle at first, especially since Beverly couldn't even make it a single lap cantering around the arena without stopping to catch her breath. But Tish and Beverly set goals and one by one, Beverly accomplished them, even going to a Class A show where she fell back into love with showing. Once Beverly was bitten by the show bug, she set a new goal: to ride at U.S. Nationals in 2015. She was nervous and her horse Buddy was still learning, but she had the opportunity to ride Playing With Fire, which is owned by Elizabeth Tyler, in the Country Pleasure Select AATR. She snatched up the opportunity and when it came time to show, she made the first two cuts. When the announcer announced the Top Ten over the loud speaker, Beverly could hardly believe her ears when her name was called. She was elated! Beverly will tell you that 2015 was the greatest year of her life and that we are not promised tomorrow, so live today. You can be sure that we will definitely be seeing a lot more of Beverly in the show ring and that 2016 will hold many more goals for her. Thank you Martha Beverly for sharing your inspiring story and making all of us remember to enjoy the time we have now. "Life is a preparation for the future; and the best preparation for the future is to live as if there were none." - Albert Einstein If you or another AHA member has a story that you would like to share in the AHA Insider, please email Mikayla Boge at Mikayla.Boge@arabianhorses.org with the subject line: Member's Tale Story.
