Region One

On January 1, 2016, 25 horses and riders will make history as the first Endurance Riding Group representing the American Endurance Ride Conference by riding along Colorado Blvd., in the Tournament of Roses Parade. This year's parade theme is "Find Your Adventure" and the Tournament Committee found the AERC's activities represent the parade theme as endurance riders enjoy the many trails of the United States National Parks. Equestrian groups are selected to showcase a variety of breeds as well as unique tack and costumes. This group includes a mix of endurance riders from those who have a few hundred miles, up to 62,580 miles. The horses also stand out as there is a variety of breeds including Arabians, Half-Arabians, an AERC Hall of Fame Icelandic Horse, Saddlebreds, a Spotted Saddle horse, and a Mangalarga Marchador. Karen Chaton, an AHA lifetime member, owns two Arabian geldings who will be participating in the parade, TBR Granite Chief +/ with 14,575 miles and ProBono D who is on his way to over 8,500 miles, if he completes the Western States Trail Foundation 100 Miles One-Day Trail Ride, known as the Tevis Cup on August 1, 2015. In addition to being an AERC Hall of Fame horse, TBR Granite Chief +/ was recognized in 2005 as the second horse to be honored as the AHA Distance Horse of the Year. Chief is currently the second highest mileage Arabian horse. If you are unable attend the parade, come to Equestfest Presented by Wells Fargo, featuring all the parade equestrian units on December 29, 2015, at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA. For more information about the AERC parade rider's group, please contact group marshal, Gayle Pena, by email.

Region 3
Congratulations are to be given to Taylor Kyse as she has been elected as AHYA President.  Taylor and her horse Spunn Honey have acquired many national titles.  She is starting college this year at Cal Poly.  Taylor also serves as Youth Director for Region 3.  You do the Region proud.

A big thank you to Karen Freeman who, for the past 19 years has been a very hard worker for the Region show, she was head of the Patron Lounge.  Her support team of Rik Harden and her husband Steve Freeman are also to be thanked.  I believe a review of the financial statements will find that the Patron Program contributed annually to the bottom line. Karen  created a horseshoe tournament, kids movie zone, rest area, and the Pink Boutique.  Her program "Lets give Cancer the Boot" was well supported and raised funds for the fight against cancer.

There are many more people to thank as well.  Margie Becker and Mike McDaniel for their efforts to provide cash winning programs for exhibitors.  Thanks to Tamara Collins and Taylor Kyse for their organizing youth activities, Wendy who provided the volunteers with lunches and dinner, Deb Johnson for her Regional Scholarship program, the crew with Robin in the award room,  Jayden and Brian doing the ribbons,  the recorder Lynn Curl.  Also the Comstock AHA who provided coolers of water in the practice arenas.

As I review the many positions that are filled with the supporters and workers at the Regional show, I apologize if a person has been missed.  Please know that my efforts here is to give a heartfelt thanks to EVERYONE.  You are greatly appreciated!

Finishing in Auburn, California . the Western States Trail Ride, popularly called the Tevis Cup Ride, is the oldest modern day endurance ride, having been held annually since 1955. As such, it has been the inspiration and model for the most challenging endurance rides worldwide. The ride was first organized by Wendell Robie, an Auburn, California  businessman and devoted rider of the Sierra high country. Many people in the 50s doubted that any modern-day horse could cover the rugged trail from Lake Tahoe to Auburn, California in a single day. Wendell and a few of his friends proved them wrong in August of 1955. He continued to hold the ride annually thereafter and organized the Western States Trail Foundation to preserve the 100 mile trail and the Ride.  The Tevis Cup is the most grueling 100 mile test competition in the world.  Most never even finish. At 72 years old, Potato Richardson and his 14 year old Arabian mare SMR Filouette (Gandhy Dancer x Fille de Cailana) won it this year beating five previous winning riders and two previous winning horses.  This is so inspiring to we people who are somewhat "long in the tooth".

Good rides to all this summer.

YOUTH CORNER
In July Region 3 had its final regional show in Reno, NV. As we usually do, we had fun! But we are also anticipating the move of the Region 3 Championships to Rancho Murietta next summer. We plan on adding new activities for youth throughout the week and making this next show year a success! Some new activities include a dodgeball game, an interactive scavenger hunt, a game truck, and more. You'll just have to come see for yourself. We will have more specific dates of youth activities as the time nears. So keep checking in for updates! Youth are the next leaders in the Arabian breed, so be sure to stay involved and connected to your fellow, young, Arabian enthusiasts. Come to the youth meetings and see what we have to offer! We also want to hear your ideas, so feel free to contact Taylor Kyse or any of your other regional youth board members who can be found on the Who's Who page on the AHA Website youth page. See y'all real soon!

The Region 8 Championship 50-Mile Endurance Ride held August 1 near Pine, Colorado in conjunction with the Colorado Mountain Mettle Endurance Rides was a great success.  The weather was perfect, the terrain was challenging, and the vistas from many parts of the trail were spectacular.  We're already working on new memberships and new horse registrations that should help to make our Championship Ride bigger next year.  HUGE thanks to Philip Himanka for putting this together for us!

The last chance to win a Region 8 Championship in 2015 will be in the cattle classes to be held in conjunction with the Colorado Arabian Horse Club Fall Show in Castle Rock, Colorado September 18-20.  In addition to a full complement of main ring classes beginning on Friday, Cutting, Herd Work, Reined Cow Horse, and Working Cow Horse classes will be held on Saturday, September 19.   RSNC recognized Ranch Sorting will also be held on Saturday, along with a FREE non-recognized fun class.   Region 8 Championship classes in Cutting, Reined Cow Horse and Working Cow horse will be held on Sunday, September 20.  As far as we know, this is also the last Cutting this year that qualifies for US Nationals.  Prize list for the show and contact information is online
