Region 3
Region 3  is held in Reno, Nevada.  The dates are July 5-11, 2015.  The staff is just exceptional and several special events are part of the show. There is a Jackpot Prize Program and a Performance Futurity.  Silver Sire Futurity is held on Thursday July 9 at 6pm in the main arena. Contact Paul Richied by email. The theme "Give Cancer the Boot" will be back again. Last Chance Show judges are Karla Moffitt and Carla Jackson  and the Region 3 Championship Show judges are Scott Benjamin, John Lambert and Bill Melendez.  The Progressive Barn Party has gotten better every year.  Live music and absolutely outstanding food.  This year there is a Tandem Bareback Costume Class.  50%of this Calcutta proceeds will go the the Horseman's Distress Fund.  As Director I want to thank all of the volunteers who work long hours every day to make the show run smoothly.  And may all the shows be successful.

Horse Expo - Sacramento, CA Reported by Linda Siegel

The emphasis this year was on Youth.  The booth was put together and staffed by Region 3 Youth Coordinator Tammy Collins.  She brought along DAHA's full sized horse and a mannequin, and they were dressed in various types of matching horsey attire.  Every time I checked the booth, there were happy groups of kids and moms/grandmas talking to people.  Tammy had give aways of many types, coloring and other activities, and lots of information.  (The booth was too small for all of this at 10x10 - she really needs 10x20 to have enough table and people space).

In looking at the demo area, there were two notable events - one was the presence of dressage trainer Valerie Baker and her large team of young dressage riders from White Horse Dressage (MLAHA member),  Valerie and the kids continued the youth theme in the demo with their lively presence.  The other was the ride on Fadjurz Kathleen by Jack Tone Ranch owner, Kathleen Tone Hammer.  The horse was a last minute substitution for a "no show" horse, and it was a rare privilege to see Kathleen riding her namesake.  In all the years I've been attending Horse Expo, Kathleen has always been there with the ranch horses, but I have never seen her ride.  She is such a beautiful rider and they moved in perfect unity.

There were uncountable children waiting to paint a white Arabian at the Children's Park.  Kathy Vrablick was just so great in her instructions to even the teeniest tiniest painter, and the horses were so proud and painted!

Wine Country AHA

Wine Country AHA is sponsoring a Lester Buckley Clinic.  Lester Buckley is one of the most popular and highly regarded clinicians to participate in Light Hands Horsemanship Clinics in Santa Ynez. He is skilled in both Classical Dressage and Western disciplines as well as problem solving and ranch work.  Blending the natural horsemanship principles of Ray Hunt/Tom Dorrance with the principles of the classical "training scale", Lester works with each horse and rider to help them achieve straightness, balance and forward movement, while also establishing trust and a happy partnership.

Youth Corner:

Updates and Information on the Region Seven Youth Committee. The Region Seven Championships were exciting and productive.  A Youth meeting was held, where new board members were appointed from many of the associations in the Region.  A nice group gathered, met new friends, and shared thoughts on the future of the club.  We are encouraged about what they can do not only for the associations in the Region, but for local organizations and charities.

A Silent Auction was held, and turned out to be a great success !  This will open the door for activities to come.  We want to thank all the generous sponsors, vendors and private individuals for their donations, and to the bidders who made the event such a success.  Many Youth members stepped in and sold garlands, built the Auction booth, and worked the tables at the booth , greeting the anxious bidders.  We are so proud of their accomplishments.  A Chuck-A-Duck event was also organized and proved to be lots of fun for all !  The Youth raised over $ 4,000.00 at the show.

With a new board in place, the goal is to bring many of the Youth from all of the associations in Region 7 together, to work on helping other groups, charities, and have fun, while promoting and sharing their love of the Arabian Horse!

Region 8
We had a GREAT Region 8 Lead-In and Championship Show in Denver June 3-6.  The number of entries was up, and everyone had a wonderful time.  Classes of 10 or more are becoming the rule rather than the exception.  During the Ice Cream Social on Saturday we watched American Pharoah win the triple crown!  Congratulations to all who won Regional honors, and thanks to show sponsors, AHA staff and Cynthia Richardson who helped Director Rusty Cook present awards.

What's Happening in Region 8:

*For the first time in many years there will be a Region 8 Championship Endurance Ride in 2015.  It will be held the first weekend in August in conjunction with the Mountain Mettle Rides in Colorado.  More information is available on the Region 8 website.  See the Shows/Rides page.

*At the Region 8 meeting June 5 delegates re-elected members of the Show Commission whose terms were expiring.  Jim Porcher (NM) chair, Jim Hitt (CO), Alan Clanton (KS), and Chuck Mangan (at large) will all serve another 2-year term.  These gentleman along with Gary Martinez (CO), John Simmons (KS), Fred Metcalf (NM), and Tim Moerbe (at large) have done an outstanding job of rebuilding our main ring show in Denver, which was  up by 55 horses this year, and in moving specialty divisions to increase participation.  The Sport Horse classes are now held in conjunction with the Zia Classic show in Albuquerque NM, and the Working Western cattle classes are held in conjunction with the CAHC Fall Show in Castle Rock CO.

Youth News
Thanks to everyone who helped make the youth fundraisers at the Region 8 Championship Show a success.  The bake sale, coin wars, and saddle rack raffle were all well received.  Youth Director Kendall Billingsley's term concludes in July, and new Region 8 Youth Officers will be elected at their meeting (date and time TBA) during Youth Nationals.  Kendall will also spearhead the decorating of the golf cart for the Golf Cart Parade.  The theme will be "Ireland".  For more youth news see the Region 8 Youth Facebook page.  If you're interested in running for an officer position contact Cindy Howey, Region 8 Youth Coordinator or call her at 316-200-6874, or see her at Youth Nationals.

We invite everyone to attend the last Youth Nationals to be held in Albuquerque and help make it the best ever!

2015 Region 10: Gaining momentum for a future that rivals the past

The 2015 Region 10 show, held June 10-14 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, Minn., offered more than 150 classes, attracted more than 400 horses from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, South and North Dakota, and Nebraska, and was supported by more than 25 show sponsors and patrons.

The classes, especially the reining, western pleasure and hunter pleasure, were some of the largest in several years.

New this year was a Pennant Race and Pole Bending fundraiser for the Arabian Horsemen's Distress Fund. The classes, open to trainers who dressed in costume and horses of any breed, raised more than $1,400 for the AHDF and included several notable trainers and horses. Overall winner was Tom Theisen riding Hollywood Gold Digger, Shan Wilson, who rode 19-year-old BC Huck Finn+, had the fastest time (0.19 seconds), Jill Scottston and "Action Jackson" won for best costume in their #tutusquad costume, and Sarah Perrin won for the slowest time.

The Youth of Region 10 were also honored with being chosen by Markel Insurance as one of three regions in 2015 that would receive its Highpoint Scholarship that awards the versatility and teamwork that occurs between an Arabian/Half-Arabian and its youth rider. The Region 10 2015 Markel Insurance High Point Champion is Katie Mahler, who was awarded a $750 scholarship for her teamwork with Little Jack Sprat. The Reserve Champion is Hunter Offord, who was awarded a $250 scholarship for her teamwork with Expressions of Gold. In addition, $362 was raised for the Youth of Region 10 through a Chuck-a-Duck contest.

One instructor commented that it was a "well run and fun show. The show committee and those who volunteered made us all feel welcomed. Well done Region 10...well done." Another exhibitor commented, "The other competitors, training barns and trainers made us feel welcome. Region 10 has such a great group of people. It really is a fun show."

The Region 10 show is not officially over yet, either: June 19 and 20 are the Region 10 Endurance and Competitive Rides and June 20-21 is the Sport Horse and Dressage Championship show.

Thank you for supporting the 2015 Region 10 show!
