The early Region 8 qualifying shows are One Day Shows (and some are concurrent Region 8/6 qualifiers), allowing those new to showing, or with a new horse, to ease into the season. We also want to thank Janet Kaiser for her years of service as the Region 8 Youth Coordinator. Send Us Your Photos As more information is added to the revamped Region 8 website, we need more photos to go with it. Year of the Horse
CTAHA is ready to celebrate the Year of the Horse! Our Open Shows are scheduled and ready. Ribbons and prizes are overflowing in our office, board members are excited for the new show season, and all four fantastic judges are signed on. The dates, fun photos, and more information can be found on our website.
Looking ForwardWe're looking forward to the first show of the year, our annual "Fun and Fuzzy" show. There will be a prize for the horse with the longest coat, as well as our photos and awards of the 2013 High Point winners.
We're also planning some educational clinics this spring, thanks to the support and initiative of our local horse professionals. It's part of our club's mission to provide a forum for education, fun, and competition. These clinics will help exhibitors learn and practice alongside friends in a relaxed and focused environment. In addition, our rated show, the 38th Annual Lone Star Classic, is on April 11-13, and we're pretty excited that one of our most popular judges, Mr. Duane Esser, will be officiating this year's show ring. Mr. Esser judged our show several years ago, and his decisions reflect a genuine fairness and consideration toward all exhibitors, as well as demonstrating international-level expertise. He enjoys our show, and appreciates the enthusiasm our kids and amateurs bring to the ring.
Last year was a good year in our Central Texas horse community, and we enjoyed seeing the increase in local participation and renewed commitment from our horse friends in Central Texas. We hope to reunite with every one of them in the spring show season, and make new friends, too.

Prestigious Volunteer Award
Ontario Equestrian Federation, the umbrella organization for Ontario's horse community totaling 22,000 individual members representing all breeds and sectors of the horse industry, initiated their "People Make A Difference" awards many years ago to acknowledge the breed associations' volunteers. This year the Arabian Horse Association of Eastern Canada nominated Dr. Paul Rutherford as the 2013 recipient of this prestigious award.
"Doc", as he is affectionately called, has a long history of horse ownership. His great grandfather imported Standardbreds from the US to provide his brother, a doctor, with good fast horses to make house calls throughout the country community. At ten years of age Doc received his first horse from his Grandfather Rutherford, a Standardbred yearling filly. Throughout his lifetime, except for his university years, Doc has always owned Standardbreds and continues to race them. When their children were growing up the Rutherford family showed Saddlebreds and a 3-gaited pony. Once empty-nesters Doc purchased an Appaloosa and boarded locally at Tagalong Stables, an Arabian horse farm owned by long-time breeders Jean & David Dinsmore. Being in the "family fold" at Tagalong Stables it didn't take long for Doc to purchase an Arabian and began showing with Caroline deBoer (the Dinsmore's daughter). This first acquisition prompted the purchase of other Arabian horses and Doc began showing in amateur western pleasure classes.
It is this passion for horses acquired years ago that keeps Doc owning, riding & showing-and, he enjoys every single moment! He is especially proud of the fact that the horse interest continues in his family as both his daughter,
Mary Ann, and granddaughter, Claire, own and show Arabians. Claire has amassed many wins in youth classes culminating in three Top Tens at the 2013 Canadian National Championship Show and has received high point awards in the youth division throughout her competitive years. Over the years Doc has continually supported the club's Arabian horse events, and has been an active sponsor for the AHAEC shows and awards, the promotion booth at The Royal/OEF "Spirit of the Horse" and Region 18. We sincerely thank him for his continued financial support, and for exemplifying to others how much enjoyment can be had from owning Arabian horses! Dr. Paul Rutherford received his OEF "People Make A Difference" Award from OEF & AHAEC President Allan Ehrlick on January 18th, 2014.
