AHYA Spring Board Meeting Recap

March 15 - Tour Day
It was a productive and fun weekend at the 2013 Spring AHYA Board meeting! Directors started arriving on Thursday to participate in a Denver city tour on Friday. Tour attendees explored the iconic concert venue Red Rocks, had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown, then headed to digital marketing agency 90octane for a social media management workshop! The day ended at the Colorado State Capitol building, where we sat in on legislative sessions of the house and senate.

March 16 - Main Meeting & Lunch with the AHA Board
On Saturday, the Board got started bright and early with an agenda packed full of exciting new developments. The minutes are still being finalized and will be available online once approved. Keep an eye on the AHYA Events page for the link.

Some major developments from the meeting included the decision for AHYA to partner on a national level with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the creation of a Canadian Nationals Ad-Hoc Committee and the creation of a Distance Ad-Hoc Committee. AHA is facilitating a conversation with Make-A-Wish to get the partnership started, and the first fundraising efforts will take place at Youth Nationals. The Canadian Nationals Committee is chaired by Region 17 Vice Director Sydney Young; she welcomes any ideas you may have for youth activities and promotion at the show. Region 6 Director McCamey Kimbler will head up the Distance Committee, working with fellow board members and AHYA members to increase youth awareness of AHYA within the distance community.

March 17 - Final Convention Planning
We can't give away too much here, but the overall schedule of events for Convention and Youth Nationals will be in the 2013 Omnibus, to hit mailboxes soon. Most notably are the return of the Road Apple Rumble and the Consignment Sale, as well as the addition of Get Flocked (it involves pink flamingos and general shenanigans - get excited). We'll have more updates as things develop. Watch the AHYA webpage and direct questions to youth@arabianhorses.org.
Updates from the Interwebs

Instagram

Did you know that AHYA is on Instagram? Head over to the social network and find arabianhorseyouth for photo updates from the March meeting and more! We'll be posting photos throughout the year and would love to include some of you and your horse friends! Submit photos for the page to youth@arabianhorses.org.

We're pretty excited to unveil a new AHYA Membership page, which is being featured in our advertisements in Blaze magazine this year. The page has a more visual design than previously on the AHA website, and we're hoping to roll out similar updates to more youth pages over the next couple of months. Check it out here.

Youth Sponsorships

Finally, in case you haven't seen it yet, we also have a dedicated Youth Sponsorship Opportunities webpage. Know someone who wants to support AHA's Youth & Family Programs, including AHYA, Convention, Regional Youth Team Tournament, Creative Contest, and more? Point them towards www.arabianhorses.org/youthsponsorship to review everything we need.

Upcoming Events

AYHC Symposium, April 12-14, 2013

AHYA is excited to attend the 2013 American Youth Horse Council Symposium next month. Youth & Family Programs Director Shawna Strickland and Communications Specialist Hilary Nixon will represent AHA, but far more exciting is the news that registrations for AHYA President Camille Waechter and Vice President Tori Oto have also been secured. Keep an eye out for social media updates from Camille and Tori while they are at the Symposium!
