A Fun- Packed Schedule for U.S. Nationals 

There's fresh excitement for the U.S. National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show, Oct. 19-27, at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Along with world-class competition, this year's U.S. Nationals will feature world-class entertainment with Sylvia Zerbini's Grande LibertThursday evening, Oct. 25; Friday evening, Oct. 26; and a matinee performance, Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Ford Truck Arena.

TAIL Tours for Tulsa Community

Designed specifically for families interested in learning more about Arabian horses, the Total Arabian Interaction and Learning (TAIL) program, Oct. 25-27, provides a guided tour of the show with an expert guide who will take each group through the barn to meet and pet an Arabian horse and then watch the competition with the benefit of explanation from a guide. Support the AHDF and Promote Positive Change 

Don't miss another fabulous Wine Walk, Friday, Oct. 26, benefitting the Arabian Horsemen's Distress Fund (AHDF). Come to the Oklahoma Ford Dealers Barn main aisle between the afternoon and evening sessions or from approximately 5 -7 p.m. and bid on silent auction items. Tickets will be on sale all week for $40, cash, check or credit card. If a live auction is more your fancy, stick around Sat. Oct. 27 during the evening session. See the U.S. Nationals Event Page for a list of auction items and sponsors.  Saks Fifth Avenue's Pop Up Store and In-Store Lounge, located in the AHA Shopping Expo in the Exchange Center will contribute 10% of sales to the AHDF.

Register for Convention & Reserve Room by Oct. 15

Monday, Oct. 15 is the last day to guarantee special rates from the Convention host hotel, Denver Marriott Tech Center. Register and book your room now! Convention Luncheon Seminar on Emergency Preparedness

This year's Convention Luncheon Seminar will feature a panel of speakers teaching you about Emergency Preparedness for your horses. This includes natural disasters, barn fires, wildfires and more. AHA Welcomes New Youth & Family Programs Director

AHA is happy to welcome Shawna Strickland as the new Youth & Family Programs Director. Along with being an Arabian horse owner, Shawna brings experience in mentorship, peer and youth groups, and a background in administration and marketing.    

 

Prior to signing on with AHA, Shawna served as an Account Coordinator at 90octane, a Denver based interactive marketing firm where she worked with clients on social media, advertising, search engine optimization and more.

 

Shawna is a product of the Arabian Horse Youth Association (AHYA) herself, being a former AHYA officer. She also served as a student intern at AHA in 2007 in the Marketing Department.  In addition she served on horse judging teams for 10 years.

 

Shawna holds a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. and an MS in International Management from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. 

 

Glenn Petty, AHA Executive Vice President, stated, "AHA is very lucky to have found such a great replacement that we are certain will carry on where Angela Mannick left off and will have that same excitement and dedication for our Youth and Family's program."

Two Ways to Support Youth of the Industry

Lend a horse to the Arabian Horse Youth Judging Contest on Friday, Oct. 26 at U.S. Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This special event is the training ground for young men and women who will shape the horse industry in the future and they need horses to judge for both in-hand and performance classes. Donate an item to the 2012 Youth Silent Auction. This annual auction is held in conjunction with the AHA Annual Convention each year and is one of the largest fundraisers for Youth Programs. The AHYA Board Meeting will be held at the AHA Convention in Denver, Colo. on Sunday, November 18 from 8:00 am - 12 noon. Please contact Shawna Strickland in regards to rooming, schedules, itineraries, or other logistics regarding this meeting.

Nominated Sire Breeding Reports

For 2012, the completed Nominated Sire Breeding Information Report must be received by the AHA office by November 1, 2012.

 

Nominated Sire Breeding Reports can be completed on-line at  www.ArabianHorses.org. Please go to the members' login and click on the Nominated Sire Breeding Reports, locate your sire and click on the name. You may enter as many mares as needed. You may also print out the report from the AHA website. From the members' login, choose Activities, Prize Money Programs and then Nominated Sire Packet Information. Choose the Nominated Sire Breeding Information Report link to download and print the form.

 

Please note - the Nominated Sire Stallion Report is separate from the required AHA Registration Stallion Report. However, if you submit a completed form to AHA and you would like for this form to be used for your Registration Stallion Report, be sure to include the stallion owner signature, breeding dates and breeding method as well as all covered mares.

Important Representation

Attention AHA members! If you are also a USEF affiliate member, please remember to specify on your USEF renewal or application your first choice as "Arabian" and not as a particular discipline. This important designation allows AHA to continue to have the same amount of seats on the USEF Board of Directors.
