 #1 . . . Registration is now open for NELLCO Symposium 2016?

John F. Helmer
"Collect wisely.
Share freely."
|
Keynote speaker John F. Helmer, Executive Director of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, will share his insights in a presentation entitled "Leadership and Bold Collaboration in Academic Libraries."
Each year we invite our speaker to recommend a book that they believe to have relevance to their message. All attendees will receive the book. This year, John has selected Beyond the Hundredth Meridian: John Wesley Powell and the Second Opening of the West, by Wallace Stegner and Bernard De Voto. According to John, this is "a tale of leadership, pragmatism, group dynamics, perseverance, and the challenge of gazing in to the future." This year, rather than distributing the book at the Symposium, we will be mailing it in advance of the Symposium to anyone who registers prior to March 1!

#3. . . NELLCO, MALLCO and LIPA continue to pursue enhanced collaboration efforts?
At the AALS Annual Meeting this month in NYC, the Steering Committee of the LMN Collaboration met to evaluate the success of our efforts one year in to our work together. Attendees were: Femi Cadmus (Cornell - NELLCO); Joe Custer (Case Western - MALLCO); Corie Dugas (MALLCO); Sarah Hooke Lee (Northeastern - NELLCO); JoAnn Hounshell (Chicago-Kent - LIPA); Margie Maes (LIPA); Allen Moye (DePaul - MALLCO);Tracy Thompson (NELLCO); Jean Wenger (Cook County Law Library - LIPA). Any of these members would be happy to talk with you further about our work.
Much has been accomplished since the inaugural meeting of the group in D.C. in Jan. 2015. Most importantly, the three organizations have each made a commitment to enhanced collaboration through the adoption of the Joint Statement on Collaboration.
Joint Statement on Collaboration
LIPA, MALLCO and NELLCO, having acknowledged a shared goal of expanding and supporting collaboration among law libraries, are committed to working together in furtherance of that goal. The leadership of all three organizations will encourage and support cross-organizational collaboration where such effort is mission-consistent, efficient and efficacious. These efforts may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Regular communication among the organizations' Executive Directors
- Regular meetings of the Collaboration Steering Committee, in person at the Annual Meeting of AALL, AALS or elsewhere, as well as by telephone
- Shared Projects and Services
- Joint Advocacy
- Sharing Expertise
- Joint continuing education and professional development opportunities
