The auction kicked off on Wednesday, April 15, and you can view it here.

Be Part of the Largest Ever Genetic Study on Lupus
Is lupus hereditary? What are its genetic components, if any? These questions have fascinated patients and scientists alike. We now know that while there are genetic predispositions to lupus, no single genetic factor probably causes it without to help of environmental factors. But just what can be done to precisely identify those genetic markers that make one prone to the disease? How does having lupus affect genetics? Can individual genetics affect how a patient responds to drugs and treatment?
23andMe, a leading genetic research firm has teamed up with Pfizer to find the answers to questions just like these. Of the study, says 23andMe:
We want to find a better way to treat lupus through genetics. By partnering with Pfizer (a pharmaceutical company developing drugs to treat lupus) on this study, we will work together to learn how your genes and your environment could play role in lupus drug treatment, and how they relate to lupus risk and progression. This will be the single largest genetics study of lupus anywhere in the world.
Lupus patients are almost universally eligible to participate in this study, but it is limited to 5,000 participants. 23andMe will send a DNA kit to participants at no cost, as well as the needed medical record and privacy paperwork. Patients who partake are eligible for up to $50 in compensation. For more information and to participate, please click here.
The Lupus Research Institute and members of its national coalition, including LFNC, are proud to support this important initiative and will work with our patient groups for inclusion in this study.

Beta Sigma Phi Sisters Come Through for LFNC, Again with a Donation of $38,735
Top: California State BSP Convention Hall. Below: LFNC Executive Director Rene Astudillo (middle) and Board members Kirsten Gee Maeda and Deidre Gee Baptista pose for a photo with our theme: Drumbeat for a Lupus Cure.
The Beta Sigma Phi sorority has taken up lupus as one of the causes it has supported over the long term, and the LFNC has been tremendously grateful for their support. At their state convention in Irvine, CA this weekend, the sisters at BSP came through for LFNC again with a donation of $38,735. The funds will help us fund key research priorities and critical patient-oriented programs, and all of us at LFNC are proud to call the BSP family. |
