LFNC Welcomes New Board Members
The Lupus Foundation of Northern California would like to introduce three new board members, bringing new energy to our Board, meshing with seasoned leadership to provide critical direction for the LFNC. Your new board members are:
Roberta Kracht, LCSW:
A behavioral therapist currently in private practice, Ms. Kracht's work experience has spanned behavioral, clinical and socio-cultural issues relating to children, families and adults with a broad spectrum of health care services. Roberta has 25 years experience training volunteers, and recently has been a great fundraiser for the LFNC's annual Run & Walk for Lupus. She describes helping raise public awareness of SLE as a personal priority.
"The Gee Twins"
Deidre Gee Baptista and Kirsten Gee Maeda:
Rarely do we "bio" two Board members together, but the "Gee Twins" are no ordinary pair. Identical and inseparable twins - one has lupus and the other does not - Deidre and Kirsten wouldn't let a little thing like lupus get in the way! Instead, they made common cause around it - Deidre from Rocklin and Kirsten from Irvine - launching the famous "Gee Twin" butterfly project, featuring hand-crafted purple and orange butterfly pins to raise awareness.
Deidre is an active member of our Sacramento support group, and Kirsten leads a support group under Lupus LA. They provide the LFNC board not only with indomitable enthusiasm, but a north-south California fusion available exclusively at the LFNC. Both are also passionate advocates in their communities and in the local, state and national political arena. They're a familiar face on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., joining other lupus advocates from the Lupus Research Institute National Coalition.

The Summer NewSLEtter is Here!
 We've heard you! In the past year, we have heard from numerous members of our community saying that they miss our print newsletter. Guess what, we missed it too. So although we had to stop printing it en masse due to a loss of funding that provided us the ability to hire a designer and a professional printer, we have decided to hack it in-house! The content is top notch, just like you have always come to know and expect, and we're even introducing interactive content. We have designed and published it in-house, and we hope you will be pleased with our new effort.
The Summer 2014 issue, headlined "The Heart of Lupus", features articles ranging in subject from cardiovascular disease in lupus to exciting new lupus drug trials to a detailed discussion of the immune system and updates on LFNC's activities.
