New $41 Million Push for Lupus Drug Discovery Headlined by Lupus Research Institute
New drug discovery for lupus has been painfully slow. In the last half century, only one new drug has been approved for lupus. The research community is now taking a new look at lupus as a new research push begins with collaboration between the National Institutes of Health, the pharmaceutical industry, nonprofit organizations, and academic communities. The Lupus Research Institute, LFNC's national research partner, is at the helm of the new effort:
The Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) and the Lupus Research Institute (LRI) are proud to join the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) launched today to speed new paths to treatment for lupus and autoimmune diseases.
The new $230 million collaboration will harness the collective knowledge and resources among the NIH, biopharmaceutical companies, nonprofit organizations and academic communities. Recognizing that no new targeted therapies exist for severe lupus, the new consortia will work to better understand the disease and uncover new targets for drug development. A total of $41.6 million is allocated specifically to the autoimmune diseases lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

2013: A Year in Transition - Annual Report Now Available
Although we are well into our 2014 Fiscal Year, it is important to take a look back and see the impact of LFNC over the past fiscal year. We have now published our Annual Report for the 2013 fiscal year - and we are proud of our achievements. We went to Oakland and San Francisco for some of our best-attended lupus mini-conferences, educated lupus patients, attended five (5) health fairs on a small staff complemented by incredible volunteers, revamped our car giveaway, and more. Please read the report here.
