Sanguine Biosciences, a biomedical research company, is seeking patients with SLE and Lupus nephritis to donate blood samples for a medical research study to help better understand the disease. Here are the full details from Sanguine:
- Sanguine Biosciences is currently collecting blood from patients with Lupus SLE and Lupus Nephritis
- Patients who are interested can sign up on our website at donate.sanguinebio.com
- Once you sign up, one of our representatives will call and set up a time for you to donate.
- Once you've set a donation time, one of our phlebotomists will come directly to your home and draw about 6 tablespoons of blood for the SF research study (we do not have the rights to disclose the study yet)
- Patients will be compensated with a $50 Mastercard gift card for their time and given the option of donating $25 to a charity of their choice.
Once again, if you choose to participate, LFNC would be grateful to be your charity of choice. PLEASE NOTE: This does NOT constitute an endorsement by LFNC of the study or the company undertaking the study. This is for informational purposes only for those who would like to participate. |
Speak Out About Judge Judy's Offensive Remarks on Lupus
Judge Judith Sheindlin - a television celebrity and by all measures a fair judge - did both a service and disservice to lupus patients in her interview with Fox News' Megan Kelly earlier this month ( full interview with transcript here). She revealed a family member has lupus, but at the same time, seemed to equate lupus patients whose disease renders them unable to work including drug addicts, alcoholics, people with "bad backs" and carpal tunnel who are on disability.
As a national celebrity, Judge Judy could have helped shed more light on those who suffer from lupus and this debilitating disease, Judge Judy chose instead to focus on lumping it with drug abuse. Instead of taking a great national media opportunity to educate the American people on the disease, she played into the stereotypes.
If you, like us, feel that Judge Judy missed an opportunity and that her remarks were counterproductive and insensitive, we encourage you to let her know. Contact her through her website. |
Join Us for a Primer and Workshop on California's Health Insurance Marketplace
As you might know, California's health insurance marketplace, formed under the Affordable Care Act, is now open for sign-ups. Known as Covered California, the exchange aims to provide affordable health insurance options for those who do not already have affordable coverage through their employers. For those whose incomes qualify, a tax credit/subsidy is available to assist in purchasing insurance.
The Lupus Foundation of Northern California, in conjunction with the San Francisco Lupus Support Group will be holding a primer and workshop on Covered California, including options available to you and how to sign up for insurance. We will also have a speaker from Covered CA to speak and answer your questions. Here are the details:
