Could Lupuzor Improve on Benlysta's Efficacy?
It was a time for great excitement when, approximately two years ago, Benlysta (developed by GlaxoSmithKline/Human Genome Sciences) was approved as the first new lupus drug in more than a half a century. After GSK/HGS broke the long drought in lupus drugs, the development cycle of new experimental treatments and their trials have definitely sped up. Immupharma's experimental drug Lupuzor is looking to build on Benlysta's success and efficacy, and rheumatologists say it has the potential to do exactly that.
Immupharma's (LON:IMM) new lupus treatment Lupuzor has the potential to offer substantial benefits to patients compared with current market leader Benlysta, new research has suggested.

A survey of US and European rheumatologists carried out by Decision Research indicated emerging therapies such as Lupuzor had the potential to improve on IV belimumab (Human Genome Sciences/GlaxoSmithKline's Benlysta) in reducing disease activity.
Read the press release here, and, as they say, "watch this space" for further updates on new drug developments as we bring them to you.

We have a challenge for YOU.

The Lupus Challenge Grant is now three weeks old. But it's not too late to give! Every donation made through this grant by May 31 will be matched dollar for dollar, for a total of $10,000 in matches. So far, we have raised $3,175, and matched it with another $3,225! Our heartfelt thanks go to:

Anonymous - $ 3,000
Lillian Fong - $ 175
Tracy Rideout - $50

So why not you? Why not now? Help us raise the full $10,000 in match, and we will put every dollar to work for northern California's lupus patients.

For the past years, you have taken us at the top of the Great Nonprofits list at GreatNonprofits.org. We are asking you to do it again for 2013! Please visit the following link and give us a great review. Your new review might even get us a "Hall of Fame" award!

Here are just a few samples of what you have said about us:

Kathleen in San Jose says:
They gave me the tools to try and help my family understand what kind of disease this really is and how it was weakening my body. They also gave me all the info on the new drugs so I could find the right treatment and assistance plans so I could get help to pay for them. They never let me down when I needed them. I am not a diagnosis I am a person with a name.
 From Lisa:
Having Lupus can be very isolating. Healthy people often don't understand how someone who looks okay can be suffering pain and fatigue. The information and support I get from this organization helps me in so, so many ways from: Up to date medical research information; Tips on day to day living; inspirational stories from other patients; as well as a caring voice on the other end of the phone. The Lupus Foundation of Northern California is my partner in achieving a healthier life. - Lisa.
