Investigational Lupus Compound Clinical Trials to Begin in 2013
The Lupus Research Institute, our national research partner, announced the following last week:
Resolve Therapeutics announced that the company raised enough funds to allow them to test their anti-interferon therapy for lupus in 2013. One of the company's founders, Keith Elkon, MD, is a member of the Lupus Research Institute's Scientific Advisory Board. He is the Mannik-Henderson Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Immunology and Head, Division of Rheumatology at University of Washington.
"These funds give Resolve the necessary resources to advance our investigational lupus compound RSLV-132 into clinical trials, which we expect to start in mid-2013," said James Posada, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Resolve. "We are excited about this novel new approach to treating lupus, which eliminates the immune complexes that represent one of the central causes of the disease."
Read more. Resolve Therapeutics has secured $5.8 million in private equity funding to conduct clinical trials, which are set to begin next year.
Interferons are proteins that allow for cells to communicate to trigger the defenses of the immune system, and thus anti-interferon therapies may hold a key to treating lupus.

LFNC Chosen as a Top-Rated Nonprofit of 2012
As a testament to LFNC's commitment to the Northern California lupus community, we were once again chosen this year by Great Nonprofits as a Top-rated Nonprofit. Great Nonprofits is a nonprofit review site, much like Yelp for the for-profit world. The honor is decided by the reviews given to us by those whom we have been privileged to serve and come in contact with. We are both humbled by and proud of this accomplishment, and we want to especially thank the readers of this e-newsletter who have given us great reviews on Great Nonprofits. Even more importantly, we are grateful for the exposure this honor gives to both the Foundation and the cause of fighting lupus.
We will continue to thrive to bridge the gap between life with and life without lupus, educate the broader community about lupus, and serve our patients and their loved ones in both proven and new, innovative ways. Thank you so much for your support.
