Earthquake CE Requirement Eff: January 1st 2015

To:             Oklahoma resident licensees and nonresidents completing our CE

From:         OID Education Division

Date:          September 5, 2014

Due to the swarms of earthquake activity occurring in the state, the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) is implementing an emergency Oklahoma Administrative Code rule change requiring at least one hour of continuing education on this topic each renewal cycle. The OID will begin enforcing the new rule on January 1, 2015. All resident agents, CSRs and adjusters with a property line of authority will be required to complete one hour of continuing education under the Earthquake course category per renewal cycle. This new requirement will be included in the 24 hours (CSRs 13 hours) as general credits.

The OID is working with CE providers to create these newly required courses. The new course group will be universal and will apply to producer, CSR, and adjuster license types. Our goal is to build our course library with numerous earthquake courses in order for our licensees to have the ability to complete this requirement every license renewal.

Please note: The OID has the ability to ensure this requirement is being fulfilled by checking CE transcripts prior to license renewal.

The OID will begin enforcing the new rule on January 1, 2015.

Should CE providers have any questions regarding this notice, please contact the Education Division at education@oid.ok.gov. Otherwise, producers, CSR's and adjusters can visit our website for course and transcript information by clicking on the below links or contacting the Licensing Division at licensing@oid.ok.gov:

Oklahoma Teacher In The Running For $100,000 Farmers Educational Grant
  News on 6   9.11.14

HENRYETTA, Oklahoma - A Henryetta elementary teacher got a surprise classroom visit Thursday she won't soon forget.

Representatives of Farmers Insurance arrived in Cheryl Boatner's classroom to tell her she is one of 15 teachers across the country in the running for one of five $100,000 educational grants through the Thanks a Million Teachers Dream Big Challenge.

The program allows people across America to nominate teachers they believe make a positive impact on students and their communities. Teachers are then invited to the Dream Big Challenge and submit proposals for their chance to receive one of the five grants.

A news release said that Boatner's proposal involves, "melding physical education with real learning opportunities." Her proposal looks to create an "Action Based Learning lab, 'Brain Camp' to benefit Henryetta elementary students by combining action and movement to remediate and enrich their educational performance."

Starting October 1st, people can vote for the 15 finalists on the Thank a Million Teachers website.

ON OCT 1st YOU CAN GO TO THE WEBSITE LINK ABOVE AND VOTE FOR THE OKLAHOMA SCHOOL TEACHER. READ THE RULES AS YOU MAY BE ABLE TO VOTE ONCE DAILY.

I received this email from a UFAA Member and it bears investigation. Please let me know, before I approach FGI of the magnitude of this problem.  In other words, do you know of anyone or have you personally experienced this problem. Reach out to your chapter members and ask, if they know of this issue. We need to know if this is state specific.

I noticed in August and September that I had MVR charges on my MVR detail report that under user ID it was listed as 21csrfe so I call my District staff and they checked it out there replay was that 21 Century are running auto quotes from our book of business and also running MVR's that I am being charged back for, if they did write the policy I would get a refund. What gives them a right to run auto quotes from my book of business and then I have to pay for the MVR's?  So at $6.78 each,I had 6 MVR's that I was charged for.

Top 30 Private Auto Insurers: SNL
Read what's occurring with our competition

CSAA (ranked #15) Insurance Exchange, which sells private auto insurance to AAA members in about 25 states, experienced double-digit year-over-year growth in personal auto business, far outpacing other top writers in the second quarter, a new analysis by SNL Financial shows.

SNL said CSAA Insurance Exchange logged $553.4 million in private auto direct premiums written during the quarter at the group level as consolidated by SNL. That represented the greatest year-over-year increase in private auto that current members of the group collectively achieved in any quarter in at least the last 12 years, according to the analysis. The group's 23.07 percent growth was primarily attributable to CSAA Insurance Exchange and CSAA General Insurance Co.

GEICO Corp. (ranked #2) continued to grow premiums at a fast pace. The Berkshire Hathaway Inc. unit, which ranks No. 2 in overall market share for private auto, had the second-highest year-over-year growth rate at 10.18 percent in the second quarter, with direct premiums written totaling $4.87 billion for the quarter, versus $4.42 billion in the year-ago period.

Allstate Corp., (ranked #3) which lost its second-place market share position to GEICO in 2013, came in next with $4.71 billion in private auto direct premiums written.

GEICO's 10.18 percent year-over-year premium growth during the second quarter lagged the 10.51 percent jump it logged in the first quarter and also fell short of the 11.30 percent hike in 2013.

Allstate grew at a 5.67 percent year-over-year rate in the second quarter. The growth was led by [Direct] Esurance Insurance Co.and its affiliates.

According to data compiled by SNL, Farmers Insurance Group of Cos.'s (now ranked #6 from #5) private auto premiums continued to slip in the second quarter, allowing Liberty Mutual Group Inc. to move up in rank to #5.                   SEE RANKINGS BELOW

Bigger than even the Target hack!  I'm sure you've heard about Home Depot's point of sale system being hacked recently.

From all reports, this hack could be even bigger and have even more fallout than the recent Target hack. Not only did the hackers use the same method of obtaining credit- and debit-card information, but victims' personal information is up for sale ALREADY on the same black market site that also hosted stolen credit- and debit-card numbers skimmed from Target's systems. This is bad and it doesn't look like these types of hacks will end anytime soon. 09.13.14

Russian hackers have apparently hacked millions of Google and Gmail accounts. Around 5 million passwords and usernames for the Google accounts are now posted online. The data just showed up on a Russian website forum. The poster, who goes by the name tvskit, claimed that 60% of the usernames and passwords are legitimate active accounts.

The hacked accounts are listed on the Russian website that's been the epicenter for some high-profile leaks over the last few days. The forum, btcsec.com, is dedicated to bitcoin security. Earlier this week, the site leaked 6 million Russian email and search accounts. This latest Google leak also contains several thousand usernames and passwords for the Russian search site Yandex.

Now, Google responded to the leaks claiming that most of the data in this hack is actually old information. Google suspects they were collected over years of phishing attacks on individual accounts, rather than a broad hack on any of Google's systems. Many of the accounts and passwords seem to be old and outdated. That being said, if you haven't changed your password in awhile, your account could still be at risk.  Click here to see if your account was hacked

Oklahoma Man Drives Truck into Lake, Gets Charged with Insurance Fraud
September 23, 2014

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has filed insurance fraud charges against Brian Troutman for falsely submitting a claim for the loss of his vehicle.

According to the AG's office, a fraud unit investigation found that Troutman, 40, told the Oklahoma City Police Department his pickup was stolen in November. Troutman later filed an insurance claim with Farmers Insurance Co.

In February, during an interview with the McClain County Sheriff's Office, Troutman admitted to driving his pickup into Lake Overholser before reporting it stolen to collect insurance money. His truck was then discovered by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Division near the dam at Lake Overholser.

Troutman received more than $13,000 for the cash value of the vehicle, along with other fees. If convicted, he now faces up to three years in prison and up to a $1,000 fine.

The Workers' Compensation, Social Security and Insurance Fraud Unit investigates and prosecutes fraud on the part of claimants, doctors, attorneys and insurance companies.
