Farmers Insurance PAC Gives to Abbott Amid Lawsuit
Texas Tribune, Austin Texas 07/22/2014
As Texas neared the end of a decade-long legal fight over homeowners' insurance rates with Farmers Insurance Group in December, the company's employees/agents PAC gave $50,000 to the gubernatorial campaign of Attorney General Greg Abbott - the top lawyer in the state's case against the company.
The contribution took Abbott's receipts in his race to succeed Texas Gov. Rick Perry to more than $75,000 since 2013 from the PAC of his courtroom opponent - a company the state alleged in a 2002 lawsuit had deceived and discriminated against Texas homeowners.

FGI: 8.2% reduction in advertising leads to 1.3% negative growth in 2013 with a 0.1% market share gain over 3 years 2011 - 2013
Is it really all about advertising?
Looking a the figures above, it becomes apparent that advertising is not the whole story concerning growth and market share. USAA, for example more than doubled their ad cost during 2013 yet only increased growth by .3% over 2012. Of course, that is a company that only caters to the military, a segment of the entire insurance business. American Family decreased advertising by 10.2% yet, increased growth by 4.3%. Similarly, State Farm decreased ads by 1.1 million and doubled growth in 2013 over 2012. Farmers again stands out as the only P&C listed with negative growth in 2013. Nebraska Problems Recruiting New Agents
Found out about 4 weeks ago that Farmers started a program to bring back those ex-Farmers agents that left and went independent. The incentive was the 1st year commissions were 50% while the renewals were 40%. After that is
unknown. Had one ex agent come back and apparently the independent route was not going well. From my ex-9th DM as mentioned before, Farmers has hit a brick wall in putting new agents on which is the reason for the above program. Good day! Cornhusker Agent

SocialProof Boosts Word-of-Mouth Marketing

Farmers Insurance Signs Commitment of Support for Service Members in the National Guard and Reserve.
National Insurer Also Re-Affirms Pledge to Hire Transitioning Veterans Across the U.S.
LOS ANGELES, July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Farmers Insurance, the largest insurer headquartered in Los Angeles, today signed a statement of support with the Department of Defense office of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), committing to seeking ways to increase opportunities for Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans. Roy Smith, President of Farmers Exclusive Agent Distribution, signed on behalf of the national, multiline insurance company.
"Farmers Insurance recognizes the talent and leadership potential found among current and former members of the armed forces and we are committed to strengthening our partnership with this group of American patriots," said Smith. The Statement of Support confirms that Farmers Insurance will:

All resident agents/producers, CSRs and adjusters are required to complete continuing education biennial. The requirements are as follows: Resident Producers (Excluding Title producers) are required to have 24 hours of continuing education, including three hours ethics and two hours of legislative updates. - Producers that sell, solicit, or negotiate Medicare Advantage or Part D Products or Plans are required to take a 4 hour Medicare Renewal course each renewal period.
- Producers that sell, solicit or negotiate Long Term Care insurance must take a 4 hour Long Term Care Partnership course each renewal period after the initial 8 hour Long Term Care Partnership course was taken.
- Producers that sell, solicit, or negotiate Annuity products are required to take a one time 4 hour course on Annuity products.
CSRs are required to have 13 hours of continuing education, including three hours of ethics and two hours of legislative updates. Resident Adjusters are required to have 24 hours of continuing education including three hours of ethics and two hours of legislative updates. If you have ever been a member of CNET or created an account at CNET, listen up! You need to act immediately to protect your personal information. The website CNET was targeted by a Russian hacker group calling themselves w0rm. And the hackers got through in a HUGE way!
CNET's servers were broken into, and w0rm claims to have stolen over a million usernames, email addresses, passwords and likely more. If you're techie and want to know how, a security hole in the Symfony PHP framework was exploited, but CNET's not revealing any of the details. Read more...

The company recently announced that a flaw in their consumer-grade router security might leave your Wi-Fi exposed to remote access. The routers are vulnerable to an exploit that allows cybercriminals to gain access to your router's administrator panel without a username or password. Hackers can use a "buffer overflow" that overrides your router's log-in screen. Cisco claims that there are no known workarounds for the flaw at this point in time.
