FGI Property Claims Ranking Improves in JD POWER 2014 Satisfaction Study

KEY FINDINGS  JD Powers 2013 customer claims satisfaction
- Overall satisfaction with non-catastrophic claims has increased by 11 index points in 2014, compared with 2013 (843 vs. 832, respectively).  - Overall satisfaction improves in four of the five factors year over year, while satisfaction with first notice of loss is the same as in 2013. The greatest increase in satisfaction is in the settlement factor (+4 points).
- When insurance companies effectively communicate with claimants, those claimants are less likely to escalate their claim to a supervisor. When a supervisor becomes involved, overall customer satisfaction drops by more than 160 index points.
- Timeliness of the communication also plays a role in whether or not a claim gets escalated.  For example, if the settlement terms are provided to the claimant within one day of first notice of loss, only 6 percent of customers escalate the claim.  The rate of escalation increases to 13 percent if the claimant is informed within one week and increases to 18 percent if it takes more than one week.- Nearly one-fourth (23%) of Gen Y claimants escalate their claim to a supervisor, compared with 8 percent of Boomers.

Posted on Farmers Dashboard by Paul Quinn, VP Claims March 4, 2014:
Farmers' focus on customer experience is bearing real results in a new J.D. Power Property Claims study, where Farmers moved up considerably from the previous year's mark and landed near the top of the rankings. Farmers Property Claims' score climbed 15(?) points to 845, a result five points above the industry average and nine points higher than State Farm and Allstate. Farmers Property Claims now sits atop the second tier of property insurers on the survey's final results. "It's very encouraging, and it shows what we can accomplish when we have a specific focus," said Assistant Vice President, Claims, Paul Quinn.

The 2014 Property Claims Satisfaction Study is based on more than 5,500 responses from homeowners insurance customers who filed a property claim between April 2012 and January 2014.

KUDOS To Farmers Claims

Great results in Farmers Property Claims Satisfaction. The Oklahoma Voice congratulates all Claims Personnel who made this happen. But, it's not necessary for Paul Quinn to fudge the tier ranking as being in second tier of the satisfaction rankings. It's no biggie but, shown above, Farmers climbed from near the bottom of the third tier in 2013 to the top of the 3rd tier in 2014 while remaining at JD Power 3 Power Circle ratings both years.
Math is again a problem this month with Farmers, as Quinn stated Farmers score climbed 15 points to 845. Well, Farmers was 825 in 2013 so, my calculator says it was a 20 point climb to 845. Still, this is a shockingly great accomplishment and we sincerely hope this is the great beginnings of a turn around in all that Farmers does, including competitive rates across all territories as an immediate priority. Agents can't wait much longer. Our savings are being depleted. -ed []

Oklahoma Judge finds Farmers guilty of "oppression, fraud, actual and presumed malice, and that they acted with complete indifference to its duty to treat the plaintiffs fairly."
The same day Farmers posted their JD Power results and their property claims bragging rights on Dashboard, breaking news comes from Oklahoma's backyard regarding Farmers Property Claims Fraud against 3 Farmers/Foremost Policyholders from the 2012 Woodward, Oklahoma tornado.
Woodward County Judge Rules:
Farmers Insurance to pay [$15] million to [3] Oklahoma Tornado Victims
Farmers Guilty of Oppression, Fraud, Malice & Indifference.

WOODWARD, Okla. March 4, 2014- A Woodward County judge awarded three plaintiffs, whose homes were damaged during a [2012] recent tornado, a massive settlement against Farmers and Foremost Insurance companies. After their homes were damaged in the Woodward tornado two years ago, the residents filed the lawsuit, claiming Farmers acted in bad faith. They say the company did not give them the money they were entitled to under their policies. Linda Louthan said, "Blatant disregard for their policy holders. They're not there to carry you through."

Jeff Marr, the plaintiff's attorney, said, "Greed and corporate arrogance and indifference and that's what this was."

Sterling Parks said, "They're there for one reason is to make money and they're not worried about their policy holders." Parks had Farmers Insurance when the storm hit but was forced to take out a second mortgage to fix his tornado damaged home.

Louthan had to move into a rent house and has been paying both rent and mortgage.

==================

This judgement against Farmers went viral across Oklahoma news networks via the Associated Press. Here are a few of the local and national articles. Tulsa World   KSWO Lawton  Insurance Journal  P/C 360

                                                            ==================

And Mary Sharpe couldn't afford to move. They've stayed in their damaged home and patched it as they could. Sharpe said, "Our home was cracking, it still is cracking. Our electricity is going out. I smell burning wires at times." In all, the three plaintiffs were awarded $15 million last week. The judge consolidated the three cases and awarded them a default judgement against Farmers. He then awarded each plaintiff $2 million in actual damages and $3 million in punitive damages. Linda Louthan said, "We were stunned, but we were excited." Mary Sharpe said, "We were just like what does that mean? Is he joking?"

Sterling Parks said, "I didn't know what to think."

Jeff Marr, the plaintiffs' attorney, said, "These people are going to have brand new homes and they're multi-millionaires now, or will be, because of the way they were treated."

According to the court transcript, the judge found Farmers guilty of "oppression, fraud, actual and presumed malice, and that they acted with complete indifference to its duty to treat the plaintiffs fairly."

Marr is convinced this wasn't an isolated situation with Farmers Insurance. Marr said, "No change, no accountability, no apology, no nothing. So we'll take the verdict as our apology." In fact, he's convinced Farmers Insurance acted the same way after the tornado in Moore, OK last year and he is already representing some of the victims from that storm. Luis Sahagun, director of media relations for Farmers Insurance, sent us this statement in response to the verdict. "We are reviewing the court's decision and evaluating our options."

Cleveland County Judge: Denies Farmers' motion to
limit pretrial publicity
(This is in progress trials of litigation by Moore, Ok tornado victims)

MOORE, Okla. March 14, 2014 - A Cleveland County judge denied a motion by Farmers Insurance to limit pretrial publicity on several cases brought against them by Moore homeowners.

These homeowners hired local attorney, Jeff Marr, to represent them in their lawsuits and the motion by Farmers claimed Marr is not adhering to a professional code of conduct when talking about them.

Farmers attached 8 different exhibits to their motion, all stories done here at News Channel 4.

"These cases are news. They were news when these people were subjected to the storm and they're news now," said Marr.

One comment that really seemed to tick Farmers off came during one of our stories here on News channel 4; a comment labeling the insurance company as a bunch of "bullies."

It came after the head of Farmers Media Relations did a Skype interview with us. "We're very bullish on the state of Oklahoma. And we want to do what's right by our customers," said Mark Toohey with Farmers Insurance during the Skype interview.

"Well I think they're bullies. They got that part right," responded Marr.

Cleveland County judge, Thad Balkman, denied Farmers motion in a hearing Thursday afternoon.

"In every case that I have against them, one if filed, primarily because they don't like seeing these people's stories on TV," said Marr. Marr says they should be less concerned about bad pretrial publicity and more about post-trial publicity, especially after a recent $15 million dollar judgement against Farmers.

That judgement came down just last week in Woodward County.

It was awarded to 3 different homeowners that said Farmers treated them unfairly after the tornado up there 2 years ago. Zurich Insurance to Cut Up to 800 Jobs to Save 250 Million

Zurich Insurance Group AG, the biggest Swiss insurer, plans to save $250 million annually by cutting as many as 800 jobs after lowering its profit goal in December, the company said.

Zurich plans to remove management layers between the main office and the individual business units to reduce costs, according to a statement from the insurer today. The company said it would achieve the savings by the end of 2015.

The company's profit for the fourth quarter was below analysts' estimates because of reorganization costs. In December, Zurich said it would have restructuring charges of as much as $600 million over the next year.

"We continue to make significant progress toward our strategic goal to make Zurich a focused and more profitable business," Chief Executive Officer Martin Senn said in the statement.

The company's shares rose 0.5 percent to CHF 270.30 [$307.46] Swiss francs by 9:12 a.m. in Zurich trading, bringing the gain over the past 12 months to 1.6 percent. IJ 03.11.2014

The changes are subject to consultation with employees and their representatives, the insurer said.

Wow, I want a job with Zurich. Check the math in this article- $250M divided by 800 jobs = $315,000/yr.  -ed

".. turn around or exit those that are under performing."
From Bloomberg 12.06.2013- (CEO Martin Seen speaking to Big Z investors)  Zurich Insurance Group AG, Switzerland's largest insurer, lowered its profit goal as Chief Executive Officer Martin Senn signaled he's ready to sell some businesses to bolster earnings growth.
"We are very strong in some areas, but we lack scale or profitability in others," Senn said in the statement. "We will invest in priority markets but manage other businesses for value. This will mean improving the profitability of certain businesses while we will either turn around or exit those that are under performing."

Survey: 1 in 3 lie for cheaper auto rates
If you fudged the facts when you applied for car insurance, you are not alone. Thirty-four percent of drivers have omitted information or supplied false information to their car insurance providers, a new survey from CarInsurance.com finds. Men were more likely to lie than women, 42 percent vs. 27 percent.  Drivers under age 30, who pay the most for car insurance, were three times more likely to submit incorrect information than drivers over 50.Among the drivers reporting a lie - and many reported more than one -- the most common were:
  1. Annual mileage: 36.3 percent
  2. Where car is parked:  32.4 percent
  3. Names of drivers with access to vehicle: 25.1 percent
  4. History of tickets or accidents: 20.5 percent
  5. Gaps in insurance coverage: 19.2 percent
  6. School grades, or teen driver's grades: 18.9 percent
  7. Anti-theft devices on the car: 17.4 percent
  8. Primary type of use (such as business, school or work):  17.3 percent
  9. Education level: 16.9 percent
  10. Marital status: 16.9 percent
  11. How long they'd been licensed: 15.8 percent
  12. Major modifications to their car: 15.7 percent
  13. Refresher or defensive driving courses: 14.4 percent
Will you get caught in a lie?
Those surveyed gave three reasons behind their decisions to submit bad information:
  • To save money: 63.3 percent
  • No correct answer option on insurance form: 28.0 percent
  • Felt cheated by the company in the past: 8.7 percent

More than 40 percent of those who lied said their insurance company eventually discovered the bad information. Of those who were caught:

  • 33.5 percent said their claim was denied
  • 31.5 percent said their premiums went up
  • 25.4 percent said their policy was canceled
  • 7.6 percent said they were sued for fraud
  • 2 percent said nothing happened.   source: carinsurance.com

Windows XP: It's time to say good-bye

I've got to tell it to you straight. If you're still on an old computer running the Windows XP operating system, D-Day is at hand. And by "D" I mean "dump it."

I understand if you don't want to face this. You have a computer and the setup works for you. Sure it's a bit clunky, but you don't want to switch. Why waste money on a new computer? I feel your pain.

Here's the deal. Microsoft is abandoning Windows XP on April 8, 2014. When you hear that euphemistic phrase "end-of-life," it means a lot of things. The big ones are no operating system fixes and no defenses against viruses and other online dangers.
