Farmers Roy Smith Responds to Agents
               on the Dashboard Community Pag
e.
Then, the subject "Enough is Enough" is locked on the Community Page to prevent agent lash back.

Roy Smith Dec 2, 2013 5:29 PM (in response to Rick O'Connell) Rick, I've read your post and reviewed the comments that have come in.  I know that the rate action we've take has had a negative impact on retention and that our agents and district managers have had a particularly difficult year.  In fact, Jeff Dailey, the zone officers and I have been traveling out to the territories and holding meetings with agents and district managers to discuss the work that is currently underway to address these issues - hopefully some of you took the opportunity to join us.  We're also meeting with the members of the Agency Advisory Council this week to discuss much of the work that is going on to help address many of the concerns the group has talked about here.  The agents and DMs on the Council have been useful advisors in working with us on solutions and new ideas to improve the agent and customer experience.

The leadership team is very aware of how hard our agents have been working to retain customers and we're laser focused on introducing solutions that will help minimize the impact and improve the overall situation. In fact, Jeff Dailey and I both agree that our #1 focus for the company at this time is to strengthen the Farmers agent, followed by our #2 focus which is to increase our core of district managers to support our agents.  It may not always seem like it, but we are investing more in agent programs and opportunities than at any other point in Farmers history.

Tony DeSantis, our president of Personal Lines, is doing a number of things now and throughout 2014 to help improve our competitive position and fix the illogical pricing issues you've mentioned. Farmers is also taking some significant steps to improve the customer experience and overall customer retention.  Working with our agents and district managers, we recently introduced a series of improvements to our billing and are continuing to work to deliver additional support to our agents through the Agency Platform.  Agents on the platform continue to out perform other agents in agency growth and customer satisfaction.  We're also in process of launching a campaign around FFR offerings that will provide our agents with additional resources to  increase retention while cross-selling existing business.  As a result, we expect participating agents to see a benefit of $15,000 - $20,000 in additional commissions in 2014.

Another major step we took on the new business front was the recent launch of SIMS.  Although it was off to a bit of a rocky start, I'm hearing great things from agents in the field now.  In fact, agents who are embedding SMPs into their sales process are seeing an average new business increase of 7% after only 2 months. We're also doing what we can to supplement agent income through Rev Up Commissions campaign, the One 4 the Money Business Insurance promotion, and the new and improved Life Bonus program.

And, everything I've outlined here only represents some of what we're doing to help improve the situation.  When taken together, these initiatives produce a powerful opportunity for our agents.  Over the coming months you'll be hearing more.  I'll also be releasing a video in the next week and a half that will outline the many investments we're making in partnership with our agents and district managers to get us back on a growth trajectory.

We have a lot of great things going on, but it's incumbent on all of our agents to take advantage of them.  The Farmers agents who are succeeding out there now are actively investing in their businesses, leveraging the tools and keeping their eye on the big picture. I need to ask the same of you. Meanwhile, we'll continue working from our end to get you the resources you need and correct what needs to be corrected.

Look for more updates in the days ahead.  For now, please take advantage of these programs ... and thank you for the terrific work you're all doing to take care of our customers and grow your businesses.   Roy.

Farmers Releases Marketing Plans for 2014-2016
The Oklahoma Voice is making a link available below for the entire 5 hour 36 min webcast of the Investors Day Meeting in Zurich on Dec. 5, 2013.This is where the Zurich Management, including Farmers CEO Dailey, presents information to investors seated in an auditorium about Management's past, present and future plans to make investments worthwhile.
The Oklahoma Voice encourages all agents to view at least the 50 minutes that Dailey speaks to the investor group to grasp a vision and understanding of the marketing plans for 2014 to 2016. This is first-hand information that could be misstated as it comes down the Farmers chain of command in future weeks or months. Your understanding will either get you excited and begin planning your agency growth for 2014 or planning your agency exit, or just continue to ride it out- depending how you interpret the Dailey presentation. We encourage you to take notes for future reference. -ed

Geico Direct Knocks Allstate out of 2nd Place Auto Ranking as of 3Q 2013
There are now two direct companies in the U.S. Top 5 Rankings including Geico and Progressive. Use to be- Farmers Insurance was #3 is shown here as #6 squeezed out by #5 Liberty Mutual by a mere $200k in auto GWP. It's no wonder how this happens- Look at Farmers GWP numbers since 3Q 2011. Farmers gained $89M thru 3Q 2012, likely via rate increases as NB has slowed dramatically within the agencies. Thru 3Q 2013, Farmers lost $136M likely from the continual rate hikes and accelerating decline in customer loyalty. As we reported last month Farmers PIF loss topped 1M thru the 3Q 2013.

#7 USAA, another direct company in business for decades catering to the military and their families increased auto GWP by $371M from 2011 to 2013. With Farmer's decline and USAA's increase in GWP, there is an excellent chance for USAA to swap places with Farmers and challenging to take the #5 spot from Liberty Mutual - placing 3 direct companies in the Top Five in the 4Q 2013. That move will likely coin auto insurance as a commodity, like food and clothing where price and ease of Internet availability is the consumer priority. -ed

graphic moving upset
On Christmas Eve., the Postal Regulatory Commission voted 2-1 for the increase on top of the annual postal rate that is capped by the consumer price index, making it the largest postal hike in more than a decade.

Stamps for first-class letters will go up three cents to 49 cents (6.5%) on Jan. 26, while bulk mail and periodicals will go up 6%, a serious blow to mail-dependent industries.

Patches! Get your patches!

Earlier this week was Microsoft's monthly Patch Tuesday. It released a number of critical security updates for Windows that you need to install. That includes a permanent fix for the scary TIFF flaw I mentioned last month and a serious security hole the recently appeared in the Windows XP kernel. It also includes fixes for flaws in Office and Internet Explorer.

Click here for instructions on updating Windows and how to make sure you're up to date.

Microsoft isn't the only one releasing updates. Adobe also released an update for its Flash player that you'll want to make sure you have.

Mozilla released version 26 of Firefox, which includes 14 important security updates. Firefox 26 also automatically disables Java on websites for better security, lets you opt-in to add-ons and has better memory management so it runs smoother.

To get Firefox 26, click the Firefox button and go to Help>>About Firefox. Then click Check for Updates. If you don't have Firefox and want to give it a try, you can download it for free here
