Chapter 15 Thanks Readers of the UFAA Chapter 15 Oklahoma Voice
The readership of the Chapter 15 "Oklahoma Voice" monthly newsletter ranks as one of the most read publications within the Nonprofit Membership Organizations, announced UFAA Chapter 15 President Glenn Johnson.
"Constant Contact (CC) is our publisher and emails the Oklahoma Voice to hundreds of current and past Farmers Agents monthly," stated Johnson. "They also track the open and click rates of millions of emails they send for their CC clients. Then, rank clients them among their "specific industry peer groups." The Constant Contact National Average for Nonprofit Membership Organizations- Business Type | Open Rate | Bounces Rate | Clicks (Click-Through Rate) | Opt-out Rate |
Nonprofit Membership Org. 22.88% 10.50% 10.92% 0.16 -National Average UFAA Chapter 15 Okla Voice 62.00% 0.9 26.2 0 -October 2012 issue
Okla. Voice 3 month running Avg. 58.20% 0.8 22.9 0 -Aug. Sept. Oct. 2012
I would like to thank all of our newsletter recipients for their interest and readership of the Okla. Voice and would encourage all readers to submit 250 word or less articles of agent interest to the Oklahoma Voice. You have a choice to be named as submitting the article or information or remain anonymous. Glenn Johnson, President UFAA Chapter 15
PS. "The Oklahoma Voice has been branded UFAA's best monthly publication."
Tom Schrader, President United Farmers Agents Association 10/15/2013
What are Oklahoma Voice Readers interest? Of the 62% who opened the Voice, 26% clicked on a link. The links receiving the most clicks are the Pulse of the Agent Polls (58%) and Oklahoma Ins. Dept Administrative Orders concerning agents or companies violating state insurance laws. (39%)
We would encourage you to click on the Okla. Voice links as we abide by federal the can spam laws as we only know you clicked a link. On Pulse of the Agent Polls, we only know you accessed the link. But, we do not know if you voted OR how you voted on the poll questions. -ed
If you would like to send emails or newsletter updates to your clients, we highly recommend using Constant Contact (CC).
If you can create emails, you can create newsletters with Constant Contact at these reasonable prices shown below. And, unlike costly direct mail, Constant Contact will show your results and advise you which clients or prospects opened your email and what links they clicked for your follow up!
UFAA TestimonialI started using Constant Contact(CC) in September, 2008 as an alternative to Microsoft Publisher that I found to be exhausting. As a 5 year CC user the set up is has become simple and editing is quick and easy. If you have read the Oklahoma Voice, you can see what can be done with pictures, graphics, images and text. It may look difficult but, if you can cut and paste and upload graphics to your CC account, it becomes a snap. Many of the industry articles and graphics you see in the Oklahoma Voice are simply cut and pasted into a text box. You can add links as you see in the Okla. Voice to Pulse of the Agent Polls, video links and read more here links.
I do not create the Oklahoma Voice from scratch each month. I simply copy last months edition, delete the previous text boxes and add new text boxes for the current issue with just 1 click of the mouse. Then, just add new articles for the current issue with copy and paste.
You can do the same thing for your agency with your photo, hours of operation, names and pics of your staff, article headlines that link to articles about auto, home, boat, life, home warranties, flood, your website, etc. CC will report to you who not only opened your email but what links they clicked to give you a follow up list that you can print and market. And, If you have a problem or question, you can go live on line with text messaging, call an 800# or email a CC CSR for very friendly help. For as little as $15 bucks a month it's a win-win for you, your clients and prospects. All you need is their email address. You can't lose your issue as you create it on line with CC's servers. If your system crashes or the lights go out, you do not lose any CC info. Just go to any computer, log in and continue. -Editor

I thought the AETNA Group Health Rate was high for 2013. WOW! Look at 2014 Premiums for Farmers Agents
These are comments from the Community Page on Farmers Dashboard
1. spoke with Agent Benefits Dept. and found out the new health plan through Aetna is going up 57% for a family plan. I don't think so. Time to start getting SMART about my insurance. It took me less than 15 seconds to do so.
2. Welcome to the Affordable Care Act. [Obama Care] 3. Thanks to all that gave this administration another 4 years.
4. No worry - with the PIF evacuation you may be eligible for federal subsidy on your Marketplace premiums. After the rate increase we got last year on the Farmers group plan I knew what to expect come this renewal. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the news yet, can't wait. It's just another weeding out of the rift-raft by strapping us down with more financial out-go while we cope with less income. 5. The irony is killing me. I don't disagree with what you are saying, but over the last 18 months I have been confronted with this scenario with most every renewal I see. How is this any different?
6. It works out to $1800 a month not including the dental or vision with super high deductible and then they reduced the 90% co-pay to 70%[?]
7. To add insult to injury, Aetna is not even part of the PPO network in our area.
8. My Aetna PPO with Farmers increased 84%. $3,100 per month for two adults. I doubt I renew.
9. I got my agents benefit thing from Aetna and my family plan is going up from like $1120 to $1190 only. Who did you guys talk to? Did you get this information from the packet benefits sent out?
10. Just checked and this year we are paying $1142 and next year our plan will be $1184. We have the Aetna Open Choice PPO. Dental and vision are pretty much going up about $1.00. So we will be paying an additional $43 per year. I am 31, my wife is 32, and my daughters are 2 and 1. I wonder what that has to do with my price and lack of increase. I hope you guys are reading something wrong. I got these numbers from my enrollment worksheet that was mailed this week earlier. [That increase is $43 a month or $516 a year, although, lower than many agents renewal] -ed
11. Mine is the HSA high deductible option with a 57% increase
12. It's due to your age, enjoy - the majority of us are not going to fare so well with the increasing coming. Most will likely have to go the private insurance route but the good news is no one that had been staying on the group plan because they couldn't get something else will be locked into it any longer. With the Affordable Care Act, everyone can get accepted as there are no longer even any health questions asked and maternity is included for those in that age bracket who need it. There are still no giveaways in the private market but at least maybe something tolerable. The SHOP program is launching 11-1 too so if an agency has less than 25 employees that may be an option and on that program an employer could be eligible for up to a 50% tax credit so everyone needs to check that option out when November 1st rolls around unless they push it back again.
13. I just g ot my renewal - 33 yr old, single female. PPO High plan went from $457/mo to $720!!! If I pay that, I'm literally choosing between that or my rent. Glad I don't have a family b/c my rate would then be $1,945.97/mo.
14. If I was still with Farmers the rate for my wife and I would be $3918.00 per month!! 15. OMG Rick! What state are you in? (Not that I could EVER begin to find any justification for that kind of rating)
16. Rick: Colorado.
17. How is this affordable health care? YIKES!!!!!
18. I am in Texas and received my enrollment worksheet in the mail yesterday. There are four options on the Aetna medical plans. For me plus one would be from the lowest premium of $2,659.70 to the highest premium of $3,699.97 per month. For family the lowest $3,971.70 to the highest of $5,449.98 per month. I am 60 and have been an Farmers agent for 29 years. No children at home now, but if I did, the family cost.... WOW is correct.
19. Does anyone know if Farmers is continuing their [52%] contribution to the agent's portion of the aetna medical premium, or has that gone away?
20. Listen to Tennessee Ernie Ford sing the 1956 song "16 tons" as you owe your soul to the company store. It all becomes quite clear as you purchase from the company store and read the article below.
Health Cost Increases in 2013 Were Lowest in Decade
October 17, 2013 Insurance Journal
There was some relatively good news in health care this year. U.S. employers and their employees saw the lowest health care premium rate increases in 2013 in more than a decade, according to global consultant Aon Hewitt. After plan design changes and vendor negotiations, the average health care premium rate increase for large employers in 2013 was 3.3 percent, down from 4.9 percent in 2012 and 8.5 percent in 2011, the talent, retirement and health consulting firm said. In 2014, however, average health care premium increases are projected to move back to the 6 percent to 7 percent range. |

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: 30 September 2013 -- Insurance agents who only focus on homeowners insurance customers are missing a golden opportunity to build long-term relationships with renter customers as their insurance needs grow due to life or circumstance changes--such as having a family or purchasing a home or additional car--according to the J.D. Here's the new Farmers Office Sign
This sign is in a grand opening picture in Vineland, NJ.
Who does the sign -purchased by the agent- actually promote? It appears to be about a 75 to 25% split with the agent name getting the least exposure. Your Farmers Agency name is vital and the only thing that differentiates you from other agents in the area. Could this agent's name be read from the street, say, 100 feet away? Agents likely to see Flood Insurance Endorsements on Homeowners CoverageFive federal regulatory agencies are considering a rule that could boost sales of private flood insurance. The proposal would require lenders to accept private flood policies to satisfy the mandate that certain home buyers in flood hazard areas purchase flood insurance. The rule is intended to implement provisions of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012, which reformed the National Flood Insurance Program, [NFIP] relating to private flood insurance, the escrow of flood insurance payments, and the forced-placement of flood insurance. Read more here plus the reader comments. There is an example of the NFIP outrageous renewal rate hikes taking place now to bail out the cash strapped NFIP with rate increases up to 1,000% in some areas.-ed

Oklahoma Investigation Leads to 12 Charges Against Former Agent A former Tulsa, Okla., insurance agent with a prior conviction of embezzlement has now been charged with 11 counts of obtaining money by false pretense and one count of violation of the Oklahoma Producer License Act. Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) investigators found that Cheryl Salmon, 57, continued to act as an insurance agent after her license was revoked and again collected premium payments and deposited them into her personal account. The total amount of premiums paid to Salmon is more than $150,000, the OID reported. In May, the OID's Anti-Fraud Unit received a complaint that Salmon was conducting business as an insurance producer, even though the OID had revoked her license in 2011 when she was charged with embezzlement. In that Tulsa County case, Salmon received a five-year deferred sentence in lieu of a conviction. Through their new investigation, detectives discovered that Salmon had contacted multiple clients and informed them she was working at a new insurance agency. The OID investigation also found that Salmon was, once again, depositing entire premium checks into her personal account instead of sending the payments to the insurance company. Salmon's victims included at least 11 different companies, all of which were either underinsured or not insured at all. One uninsured victim suffered significant damage in the May 20 tornado, while another paid Salmon more than $75,000. The deferral of Salmon's 2011 sentence was revoked on Sept. 11, 2013. She is currently in the Tulsa County Jail. Tulsa County District Attorney's Office, the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and the Tulsa Police Department helped with the investigation. SECURITY ALERTSerious Adobe hack exposes 2.9 million customers10/05/2013- This week hackers breached Adobe's systems and stole 2.9 million customer names, email addresses and encrypted credit and debit card numbers. If you've purchased any Adobe products, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat or the paid version of Adobe Reader, just to name a few, you could be at risk. Adobe should notify you if your information was taken and offer a free year of credit monitoring. Whether you're an Adobe customer or not, you should have an identity protection plan in place anyway. Click here to find out what identity theft protection service I use and how it's already kept me safe. Earlier this week, I alerted you about a devastating ransomware virus spreading quickly online called CryptoLocker. If your computer is infected, CryptoLocker will encrypt your documents and give you four days to pay a ransom as high as $700 - sometimes only $100 if you're lucky - to get them back.
If you don't pay the criminals for their crime of locking your files using strong encryption, your files are locked forever. You will never get them back again. While you might pay this ransom as a last resort, users are reporting that some files will give an error and stay locked. There is no way to recover those files. Unfortunately, your antivirus software does not block this malicious virus. This is important. If you get CryptoLocker, disconnect from your wired or wireless network immediately or else other systems on the network will become infected too. Be sure to forward this security alert to your family and friends so they stay safe as well. This virus is hard to detect and is quickly spreading online. The virus is disguised in an email that looks like it's from a legitimate business like FedEx or UPS. Because the email sounds and looks like the real thing, it's easy to become a victim. If you get the virus, hackers will threaten to destroy all your files - unless you pay up fast. Don't let hackers steal your files and your money. Click here now to find out how to spot the virus before it infects your system and how to survive this disastrous attack unharmed.

Joke to make you laugh- One lie deserves another
An 80 year old senior just hung up from his 911 call reporting 2 burglars in his back yard garden shed stealing contents. The police dispatcher told him that all officers are busy and no one is available. About a minute later the old man dials 911 again and advises to cancel the call to his home as he has just shot both burglars. Seemingly, within seconds, comes the arrival of 4 police cars, a detective unit, a police crime scene processing unit, an ambulance, a fire medical rescue squad and a unit from the medical examiners office. Officers arrest the 2 burglars who, surprisingly, are uninjured. The detective approaches the old man and says, "You told 911 you shot both of them." The old man responds, " 911 told me no one was available." |

OOPS, Corrections & Modifications: In the Oct 2013 issue of the Oklahoma we stated: Okla Ins Dept: Change of address or name more than 5 days after the change occurred shall be no less than a $250 fine. We discovered after we went to press that statute applies only to Bail Bondsmen, not insurance producers. We have corrected it below. ========== =========== Okla Ins Dept: Change of address or name more than 30 days after the change occurred shall be no less than a $100 fine.
