Developing Skills and Sharing Experiences - Focus on Leadership
Aaron Johnson, Class 5, helps Sam and Mary-Kate write speeches about their Cultural Leadership experience.

This summer, Class 9 students began refining their leadership skills. Students participated in a half-day Fundraising workshop, where they packaged their Cultural Leadership experience so that others could understand and support their mission. They also attended day-long Speech-making workshops, where they practiced fundamental public speaking skills and wrote their own speeches. If you have an opportunity for students to share their speeches about their Cultural Leadership experience, we would love to do it! Please contact Maggie at mharris@culturalleadership.org or 314.725.3222.

The March on Washington turns 50.

As the 50th anniversary for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom approaches, many news outlets have been "revisiting" the March to explore how successful it was. Where are we now? Class 9 students were interviewed by filmmaker, and Transformational Journey, speaker Shukree Tilghman for his PBS documentary, "The March @ 50." The series premieres August 26, 2013.

Using education to lead change.

As our students return to school after their summer "vacation," they will continue applying the knowledge they have learned throughout their year in Cultural Leadership to impact their schools and communities. Armed with the ability to pursue conversations about sensitive topics, our students will begin opening others' eyes through facilitation.
