Seminary of the Southwest Awards Three Honorary Degrees
The Seminary of the Southwest graduated 24 students and awarded three honorary degrees May 24 during the Austin seminary's 65th commencement. Honorary degree recipients were Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry; Secretary of the Diocese of Texas Canon John A. Logan, Jr.; and educator, worker for justice and founding member of St. James', Austin, Bertha Sadler Means. Read more

Open Door Preschool's central campus in Austin was forced to temporarily relocate after their building suffered detrimental flood damage on Tuesday, May 17. Without warning, 72 students - infants through preschool age - were left without a suitable learning space. With gratitude, Good Shepherd on the Hill, a second campus of Good Shepherd, Austin, welcomed the preschool to their campus on Friday, May 20. During the 2014 school year, Good Shepherd on The Hill served as the temporary home for Good Shepherd Episcopal School, equipping the campus with most of what Open Door needed to pick up where they left off. Join Bishops United and #WearOrange on June 2

"Bishops United Against Gun Violence" has partnered with "Wear Orange" to help promote National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 2. Wear Orange started in the South Side of Chicago as classmates honored the memory of their friend Hadiya Pendelton, who was shot and killed on January 21, 2013, by wearing orange, a color often worn by hunters to protect themselves. You can join with Bishops United and #WearOrange by sharing pictures of yourself wearing orange on June 2 on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using the hashtags #WearOrange and #Episcopal. Some clergy plan to wear orange stoles to show their support in the fight against gun violence on June 2. To learn more about #WearOrange, see the video and visit the website here
Episcopalians Help School In Flooded Deweyville

Episcopal schools in the Diocese of Texas donated nearly $3000 to the elementary school in Deweyville that was severely flooded earlier this spring in response to an appeal from Fran Barrack, chair of the diocesan schools commission. This gift is in addition to emergency funds provided from the Diocese and Episcopal Relief and Development for flood victims in the area.

Celebrate Juneteenth with Gospel-by-the-Sea in Galveston

Help St. Vincent's House celebrate Juneteenth, 2016 at the 15th Annual Gospel-by-the-Sea event on Saturday, June 11th, 2016 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Moody Methodist Church Gymnasium (2803 53rd Street, Galveston.) The event will feature traditional and jazz Gospel music as well as liturgical dance by Galveston's own Wright-Cuney Angels and other featured music groups. Tickets are $5 plus a canned good for the food pantry or $10 without a canned good. New Film Asks Hard Questions About Gun Violence

The new film Armor of Light chronicles the journey of an Evangelical minister and the mother of a teenage shooting victim who ask some difficult questions? EDOT Hispanic Lay Leadership Conference, June 17-18 

The Commission on Hispanic Ministry will sponsor a lay leadership conference, June 17-18 at Camp Allen. Special guests include Bishop Andy Doyle and Bishop Hector Monterroso from the Diocese of Costa Rica. Find out more here. The conference will be conducted in Spanish.

EHF Seeks Health and Equity Program Specialist that will support the 150+ Episcopal congregations within the 57 counties of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas to improve health and equity within their communities. As a member of the Congregational Engagement team, the Health and Equity Program Specialist will be a partner with and consultant to the congregations to support their development and implementation of programmatic work to advance community health and equity in areas such as poverty reduction, racism and disproportionality, nutrition and food security, civic engagement on pro-health policies, mental health and mental illness, and early childhood development. The Program Specialist will work with congregations to build local coalitions and support groups to align goals and messaging to strengthen impact of health and equity work across the Diocese. Complete details can be found here.

St. David's, Austin, Seeks Director of Youth Ministry 
to oversee and build programs for middle and high school aged youth and their families. The Director of Youth Ministry will coordinate closely with the Director of Children's Ministry as well as a team of staff members overseeing music, pastoral care, outreach, communications and hospitality.
