Diocesan Treasurer To Retire In 2016

 

After more than fifteen years of oversight for the Diocese of Texas' finances, Robert Biehl will retire in June, 2016, the Bishop's office announced today. "Bob has been an integral part of creating a sound financial footing for the mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas," said Bishop C. Andrew Doyle. "He is the consummate accountant, a gifted congregational guide, pastor and strategist and we give thanks to God for his work and ministry among us." Read full article here..


 

Camp Allen Hosts National Stewardship Conference in May

The Episcopal Network for Stewardship will hold its national conference at Camp Allen May 29 and 30, 2015.  Creating a Culture of Generosity features the Very Rev. Gary Hall, dean of Washington National Chathedral and former dean of Seabury Theological Seminary.This is an extraordinary opportunity to send your church's stewardship team for inspiration and practical information for running your annual giving campaigns and stewardship initiatives. Rodriguez Now Interim Director of Hispanic Church Studies

The Rev. Al Rodriguez has been appointed interim director of Hispanic Church Studies at Seminary of the Southwest for the coming year.  Current adjunct professor, former board member, and alumni of Seminary of the Southwest, Rodriguez is a leading figure in American Latino Outreach (ALEO) and a recent fellowship recipient from the Episcopal Church Foundation. Rodriguez will replace Paul Barton who is leaving the seminary to pursue his ministry in the Hispanic church and the United Methodist Church. 
New Book On The Church From SSW Alum Released

The latest book from Seminary of the Southwest alumnus and writer in residence Greg Garrett entitled My Church Is Not Dying: Episcopalians in the 21st Century, has just been released. The book features interviews and stories from dozens of women and men connected to SSW, among them Greg Rickel, Bishop of Olympia who wrote the book's Foreword and also contains reflections on the Church and its future from Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and many other figures across the Episcopal and Anglican landscapes. Get Tickets for Episcopal Night with the Astros, June 12

Com join other parishes in the Diocese as the Astros take on the Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park on Friday, June 12 at 7:10 p.m., fireworks included. The Episcopal Health Foundation will be highlighted during a pre-game ceremony followed by the Rev. Sim�n Bautista, Canon Missioner for Latino Ministries and Outreach at Christ Church Cathedral, throwing out the first pitch. For group tickets contact Brent Broussard at 713.259.8316. 

Christ Church Cathedral is serving hot dogs before the game so come early and bring the family. Free parking is available in the Cathedral garage on San Jacinto for the evening.

Join the Diocese of Texas for an evening of Sharing Faith on either May 14 or 21. This night of listening and sharing our stories of faith will strengthen your community as we learn together how to talk about our faith. The evening will begin with a simple meal in parishioner homes or, in some cases, at church. The Diocese of West Texas and the Diocese of North Carolina are joining us this year so there will be thousands of dinner conversations happening at the same time across the country. Find more information here.

Intensive Journal Workshop, May 1-2 in Austin

Energize mind, heart and spirit in this workshop with material developed by Dr. Ira Progoff who developed a process to aid in the exploration of life and inspiration for the future. Led by the Rev. Michael Russell, journaling retreat leader for 30 years and priest for formation at Good Shepherd, Austin, the class will be held on Friday May 1,  from 2 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, May 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A brochure is available here. Host ERD's 75th Anniversary Photo Exhibit

A smaller, table top version of Episcopal Relief and Development's 75th Anniversary photo exhibit is available for interested churches in the Diocese of Texas to host. ERD's exhibit kicked off its year long journey across the country with a grand opening at St. Martin's, Houston on March 12. It has moved on to Dallas and will later be shown at St. David's, Austin. The smaller version is an exact replica of the larger exhibit. Please contact Kevin Thompson if interested in having this exhibit at your church. It will be sent with brochures and those who show it will then forward it on to the next church interested (at no cost). Please consider sharing this incredible look at the global ministry of the Episcopal Church with your parishioners.

EDOT Seeks Program Coordinator for Youth

The Diocese of Texas is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator for Youth Events to support all diocesan youth events, directors, and program steering committees. This is a full time, salaried position based out of the diocesan center in Houston with the understanding that much of the work will take place around the diocese as well as at Camp Allen. The program coordinator will serve a two-year "fellowship" in which to discern his or her gifts as a leader in the church.
