Beat the Heat - Popcicles For All

The LA Zoo has picked a great weekend to host It's Cool at the Zoo.  This Saturday & Sunday zoo visitors will chill with fruit pops, misters and fire hose sprays. The animals will also have frozen treats from meatcicles to trashcicles. There will be all kinds of other cool activities and giant ice sculptures too - hmmm good luck with that.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEKEND:

  • Believe it or not Yosemite Comes to Downtown LA at the Vista Hermosa park Friday evening.
  • Saturday evening stroll or bicycle along the LA River at the monthly Frogtown Art Walk.
  • No Sweat?  Annual Square Dance at Heritage Square Saturday evening.
  • Scuba Do? This could be cool. Discover the underwater world at the Pyramid Lake Ecology Dive on Saturday.
  • It's always cool on the coast so the Annual Art & Street Painting Festival in Ventura might make a good destination on Saturday or Sunday.
  • DOH! The Simpsons Take the Bowl all weekend with fireworks.
  • Stay cool magically as the hit theater-magic show "Smoke and Mirrors" returns to NoHo this Saturday night through Nov. 2.
  • LA County Fair  continues through Sept. 28. They have a new attraction this year called Luminasia where around 50 artists have created plants, animals and architecural pieces that light up like Chinese lanterns. Every evening starting at 6pm. There is an extra admission for this display.

1958 Oldsmobile Fiesta Station Wagon, 2014
by Charles Phoenix

Oldsmobile Fiesta
Long before this very 1958 Fiesta Station Wagon by Oldsmobile made it to the auction block, was a classic dream-car day I'll never forget.
One fateful Friday evening in the late 80s, I was going through the Recycler classified ads and found this uber-rare, space age spectacular listed for sale...

We need to be thankful this month and spread this feeling of appreciation wherever we go. This is a good time for us to conserve and share what we have in abundance by giving to charity. Many signs will need to express their thoughts but should take great care in being considerate. Communication can be too easy in that we may want to share too much information too quickly. At the same time, we may also feel as though we aren't being heard and this could lead to rows. Open dialogue but avoid saying more than is required. Let others have a chance to speak too.
