LA - A Winter Wonderland?

WEEKEND WINTERLAND: Brrrr... It feels like winter. How cool is that? There are plenty of events and activities to keep your holiday spirits warm as mulled wine.

WATERY WONDERLANDS: One if by land but two if by sea. Marinas and harbors along our coast are decorated too and the lights reflected in the water doubles the brilliance of the displays. Some harbors have annual boat parades where decorated boats vie for prizes and cruise through the harbor each night. However, parading or not, you can view the decorations either by boat or on shore anytime during the holidays to enjoy them.

Woodland Hills Ice

WINTERY WONDERLANDS: Rain or shine, hot or cold, rinks all over town stay busy with skaters showing off their mad skills or stumbling around for the first time. No matter your skill set, outdoor ice skating is the perfect way to spend the day (and work off a few holiday-indulgent calories). Don't worry if you can't perform a triple axel...read and watch how our own M.R. Hunter made learning to skate look easy breezy Here.

END OF THE WORLD TODAY? I guess we'll all know tomorrow. There has been a great deal of interest in the Mayan Calendar for the last few years because the calendar they created ends this year.  Some people believe that means it will be the end of the world, but many people believe it is the beginning of a new era and are planning a gala celebration at Birth 2012

Bored SantaMORE WARM: Duck inside for some alternatives to warming up at the local cineplex. You won't find the usual suspects on our Film page - on Friday, for instance, you could go to the famous Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and see two of our favorite Chaplin films: Modern Times and City Lights. Prefer a play? Play around on our Theater page. Or find holiday themed events on our happy and hefty Holiday Guide - the bored Santa waiting for his close up at a local mall should have.

As usual check our full Entertainment Calendar for other interesting and unusual options.

TIP: you can find events and other things to do near you - you'll find neighborhood and regional calendar links at the bottom of all Eye Spy LA web pages.

Have a wonderful weekend!

A Sneak Peek at the 53rd Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration

by M.R. Hunter

Invertigo Dance Co.

We got a sneak peek in the rehearsal halls at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Saturday, Dec 1 and to our amazement, this is the only time for groups to come in for a quick run through. Having seen the televised performance, one has the impression of a well-oiled machine that requires weeks of dedicated polishing and careful coordination. What we discovered was almost more amazing than the actual extravaganza itself ...all of this must come together in a single day. That's one rehearsal in two rooms, 500 performers and a team of producers behind a long table armed with stopwatches, a video camera and a lot of patient enthusiasm.

You can see the show at the Music Center (it is free) on December 24th or watch it at home on KCET.  Follow the link below for all the details.

A Cheeky Holiday One-Man Show: "In Heat in Hollywood Ho Ho Ho!"
by M.R. Hunter

In Heat Hollywood

David Trudell's cheeky one-man debut is anything but jejune and is an amusing jaunt through the highs and lows of his personal trials and tribulations as a transplant living in Lala Land.

For those seeking more adult entertainment with such shows like "Bob's Holiday Office Party" and "Santasia" already under their belts, Trudell's boisterously forthcoming expose is a fast, frenetic interlude akin to watching a little kid tear through his Christmas gifts at mach speed. Ruminating on his childhood, diving into Hollywood and coming up for air from a serious brush with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Trudell eschews away from the seriousness of his reality as if it were a lump of coal, pivoting instead on his sexual escapades and delirious pickup conquests.

Not intended for younger audiences and certainly aimed for the WeHo demographic, "In Heat..." really heats up around the time when Trudell drops trou...

Barring something like the end of the world, 2013 is a year that comes with important lessons. Those who have been struggling to find their niche will have better opportunities to find their true calling. Our attentions have been focused on recent tragedies, but from these will come a collective call to action. This universal consciousness can motivate positive change. All signs should be willing to adapt and shift, especially if it means breaking new ground or letting go of a bad habit. Start the New Year with a fresh perspective. Take resolutions to a higher level now.
