THANK YOU

IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT!
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Thursday, April 16th at Apollo's 2000 for the 3rd annual La Villita Comedy Show! A special thanks to our promotional sponsor, LatinoScoop.com, our host, Jaime de Leon, and all of the comedians that hit the stage.

With the proceeds, we'll be able to send more students like Yusra Sarhan to college.

From Yusra:

"One of the things that I really like about Latinos Progresando is that they open up the doors to everyone. For a girl who came here when I was about two years old, from a country called Jordan, not having papers, having to deal with the threats of deportation more than once, and being afraid of not being able to go to college, Latinos Progresando made a lot of things come true for me.

There are a lot of scholarship organizations open to Latino students, but not necessarily all undocumented students, so this means a lot to me. Because of Latinos Progresando, I currently go to the Illinois Institute of Technology and am simultaneously majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. This scholarship has made me realize that immigrants and undocumented students go through a lot of struggles, but they come out of those struggles as leaders. I want to be able to help other students do this as well."

ComEd CLEANS UP MARSHALL SQUARE
A special thanks to the group of volunteers from ComEd's OLE! organization, and our friends in the Marshall Square Resource Network for spending Saturday afternoon doing some spring cleaning on Cermak Rd. We'll be out there doing work through the spring, summer and fall months, and appreciate such a great kick-off to the season!

LP LEADERSHIP HIGHLIGHTED AT ACLU
LP's founder and executive director (and ACLU of Illinois board member) addressed the 800+ crowd at the inaugural ACLU Lunch, talking about the impact of the ACLU's work and its influence on the early days of Latinos Progresando.

Congratulations to the ACLU of Illinois on a great event!
