Planning Commission asks for your thoughts on greenspace in Milton

To help identify the land our citizens would like to preserve (through bond proceeds or otherwise), the Milton Planning Commission would like to hear what characteristics you feel are important for greenspace. In your opinion, what criteria should land be judged by?

Examples include:

  • Protects important natural resources
  • Provides greenway and/or trail connection between parks and schools
  • Protects significant historic resources
  •  Or any others that you feel are important

What does a green space bond mean for Milton?

  • A bond is one of the many tools we can use to help preserve green space by providing funds for the acquisition of land and/or acquiring conservation easements from willing landowners.
  • It is a general obligation bond that will need to be approved by the voters because it is backed by the full faith and credit of the issuer. This means we are guaranteeing repayment of the debt using any means necessary, including the possibility of levying additional property taxes.

The Planning Commission has heard the call for greenspace preservation in our community and needs public input on the future direction of land protection in Milton, said Peyton Jamison, chairman of the Planning Commission. What's most important, he said, is a healthy dialogue about greenspace in Milton.

"If you have an opinion on greenspace preservation in Milton, then let us know what is important to you with this quick survey," said Jamison. "We absolutely want to hear from everyone interested in their community."

The open-ended survey will be available through the city's website at cityofmiltonga.us/greenspace until March 1.
