Be a part of your community this holiday season

It's almost time for turkey and then we will be into December, and at Milton's City Hall, the spirit of community, camaraderie, friendship and fellowship is in the air. For us, it's weeks packed full of not only festive celebrations, parties, dinners and all that the holidays entail - but real work being done to bring this community closer together and make life better for our residents.
Over the course of our almost nine year history we have done some amazing things as a community. Join us Tuesday, Dec. 1 (our ninth birthday) at 11 a.m., as we make Milton history by breaking ground on our new City Hall. The new City Hall complex will include offices, council chambers, meeting areas for residents and a town green for community events, all in downtown Crabapple. On top of this momentous event, we have a packed month ahead with holiday festivities around town. We hope you and your family will join us for three great holiday events this year: the Milton Tree Lighting Saturday, Nov. 28; the eighth annual Christmas in Crabapple Saturday, Dec. 5 in partnership with the Crabapple Community Association (CCA); and the second annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa Claus hosted by the Milton Fire Department Saturday, Dec. 12 ...

City Hall Groundbreaking Dec. 1

TUESDAY, DEC. 1, 2015
11 A.M.
|
INTERSECTION OF BRANYAN TRAIL
& LECOMA TRACE
|

Join us to celebrate our ninth birthday with the groundbreaking of the new Milton City Hall Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m.
The new site is located at the intersection of Branyan Trail & Lecoma Trace in downtown Crabapple.
Set to open in April 2017, the city has set aside money in preparation of one day building our new city hall said Mayor Joe Lockwood. Plus, city funds will no longer be used to lease property taxpayers do not own - an important step to ensuring the most value for resident dollars.
"We're excited to not only be giving the residents of the
City of Milton a beautiful, welcoming and functional
City Hall complex - we're doing it without adding to
their tax bills,"
- Mayor Joe Lockwood
"With smart budgeting and judicious use of our yearly fund balance, we'll be able to bring these projects to fruition without the additional burden of more revenue from property taxes." said Lockwood. The City Hall complex, which will be located between Crabapple Road and the existing Braeburn development, is slated to include offices, council chambers, meeting areas for residents and a town green for expansion of special events in Crabapple.

To see suggested items for the toy collection, click here.
To sweeten the deal, on Saturday, Dec. 12, the first 75 people who bring new, unwrapped toys to Nothing Bundt Cakes will receive free bundlets for a year.
What is NFCC's Santa's Shop? With the help of personal shopper volunteers, parents of children 1-18 years of age "shop" at no charge in Santa's Shop. Santa's Shop empowers parents and strengthens the family unit as a whole, by allowing parents to be involved in picking of Christmas toys and gifts for their children. It is a personal and joyful opportunity for parents to make decisions that provide for their children. An anticipated 2,000 children from the North Fulton area will be supported by Santa's Shop this year. Your gift will help bring the magic of the holiday season to children of all ages in our community.

Milton Fire-Rescue Wellness
These are troubling statistics, which is the reason in 2010 the City of Milton Fire Department instituted a mandatory wellness program, which includes an annual physical and a physical agility test. Milton firefighters are required to complete 60 minutes of physical training (cardio and strength training) each day while on duty. The annual physical, which meets NFPA and OSHA standards includes:
- Comprehensive Medical History
- Vitals
- Lab Analysis
- Body Composition
- Pulmonary Function Testing
- Vision Screening
- Hearing Screening
- EKG
- Physician Physical
- Submaximal Stress Testing
- Muscular Endurance, Flexibility and Strength
The physical agility portion of the program includes 10 firefighting related tasks, i.e. ladder climb, hose pulling, victim rescue, and stair climb.
In 2011, the department, which is made up of 60 firefighters, lost a total of 163 lbs. Our uniform vendor has bragged that the City of Milton Fire Department is the only fire department that he does not have to order oversized uniforms for personnel.
Our wellness program keeps our firefighters in good physical condition, reducing injuries and lost time at work, and better prepared to serve Milton citizens.

Holiday Travel Safety Tips from Milton Police Department
Ok, so we know nobody is posting this on their social media (hopefully!!!) but it's a great reminder to be cautious about what you share online. Posting your travel plans online advertises to others that your residence will be vacant, which can be a tempting opportunity for burglars. Here's a couple tips to keep in mind when you're heading out for the holidays...
1)
If you're heading out of town, request a vacation patrol - officers will be happy to stop by and check on your home while you're gone & contact you with any issues. Click here to send a request or
call us at 678-242-2570.
2) Before leaving, double check the locks on your windows and doors to make sure they work - and please use them when you leave.
3) Make sure your residence looks lived-in. Plug in timers to turn lights and a radio or television on and off at appropriate times and ask a neighbor to occasionally park their car in your driveway. (If leaving your car at home, park it as you normally would.) If you have a home phone, turn the ringer on low so that it doesn't alert anyone outside the house that you're not home.
4) Stop all deliveries and ask the Post Office to hold your mail or have a neighbor pick it up, so that it doesn't pile up and alert others that you are away.
5) Keep a list of all valuable items and make sure it is updated before heading out of town, in case anything happens while you are away.
