HISD school funding legislative priorities
Yesterday you may have noticed an email in your inbox from Superintendent Richard A. Carranza addressing HISD legislative priorities in light of the pending scheduled July detachment of $18 billion of nonresidential property and reassignment to other school districts. Please take a few moments to read the email carefully and visit the HISD recapture site at houstonisd.org/Recapture to learn more.
In addition, if you are interested in contributing to the PTO's legislative committee please sign up here.
PTO Friends and Family campaign The Friends and Family campaign now moves into 2017. There is still need remaining. We are only two-thirds of the way to our goals, with at least $12,000 left to raise. If you have not contributed, please consider doing so. See below for details. The PTO is in the process of generating letters acknowledging 2016 donations. Please take a few moments to review the list of donors below and let us know if you have any corrections. We thank the 2016 donors very much!
PTO Food Sales As a second reminder, 2017 food sales prices are $4 for sandwiches and $2 for pizza slices. Food sales act as a fundraiser for both the PTO and for school clubs. Each club receives a $100 contribution from the PTO when the club supplies workers for a Friday's pizza sales. Currently this is taking the bulk of PTO returns from food sales. Please encourage your students to support the PTO and school clubs by buying PTO food. Thursdays will be returning to Vietnamese, beginning Jan. 12th, 2017 with Bodard Bistro. Many thanks to Maureen Yen, Mary Beth Yard and Thu Hang Dao-Jeanjean for their efforts to bring Vietnamese food sales back to Thursdays!Keep Calm and Rhino On!

Attention Senior Parents
Your seniors are working hard to raise money for their end-of-year festivities and offset some costs to you. Weekly Whataburger Wednesday food sales, volunteer slots at the Carnegie Coffee Bar, the successful July 4th Bash last summer and senior dues contribute to their budget. Here are some reminders and requests. - Third payment is due to Ms. Ramon, jramon1@houstonisd.org, by January 30. Last payment is March 1. Please follow this link here to the original letter about payment options.
- Senior dues cover: Prom Ticket · Six Flags Ticket · Transportation to Six Flags · Meal Voucher for Six Flags · Senior Breakfast · Senior Lunch · Yearbook & Signing Party · Cap & Gown
- Volunteers are still needed for eight more weeks of Whataburger Wednesdays 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Seniors will sell food on Wednesdays and parents are needed for assisting and supervising. (Please sign-up on our Signup Genius and VIPS here.)
As parent liaisons, our goal is to keep you up-to-date with the senior class events and requests. Please feel free to contact Pamela or me with any questions. Next month we will include more end-of-year dates. For more information, call Nicole Shanahan at 281-960-2194 or email nshanahan@hcde-texas.org or email Pamela Lemoine at pamelarobert@comcast.net.

Friends & Family Campaign
When reviewing which charities need your support most, we'd like you to consider a cause very close to your home and your heart, your schools' PTO. Every $$ donated to CVHS PTO is used to help the students and their families, the teachers and the school. The vast majority of our PTO funding comes through generous contributions to the Friends & Family Campaign. Without this money, we cannot complete all our good work. We have not reached our goals for the year, and so we ask that parents consider this worthy, charitable (tax deductible) gift.
We want all parents to have complete knowledge of what we do with the money we collect. Most of our spending goes to these terrific causes: - Teacher Appreciation, Development and Support: $17,000
- Campus Beautification and Maintenance $3,000
- Events, Honoraria and School Clubs $6,000
- Scholarships $2,500
We hope to collect more than our budgetary needs so that we can make the Pavilion (pictured above) a reality. The Pavilion will provide all students a wonderful place for lunch, gathering, and educational activities. We continue to raise money towards our target of an additional $25,000 to complete the $100,000 funding needed for the Pavilion. The PTO has raised the remaining funds through past gifts to the Friends & Family Campaign.
Donations may be made online, by clicking here, or by check made out to "CVHS PTO". Our giving levels are listed online, but the PTO welcomes any donations of any amount!
