"Robin-hood", clothes, and college!

Please join us at the next PTO general meeting, this Thursday, Sept. 15, 6:30 p.m., at the school, when we will have a guest speaker: Ms. Hooker, HISD College Success Advisor at CVHS. Her presentation will be preceded by a PTO general meeting at which we will sell spirit-wear and take donations, while Mr. Moss will update us about the impact on CVHS of the statute recapture scheme. Spoiler: recapture is slated to cause a loss to HISD of over $1 billion over 5 years! Please consider attending the meeting so your voice can be heard on ideas to address this important concern.

Read on for this week's news, and keep Calm and Rhino On!

NHS peer tutoring
Rhinos helping Rhinos

Now that we are into the fourth week of school, is it starting to be clear just where your CVHS student might need a little extra help? Wel never fear, because the CVHS National Honor Society is here.

Again this year, NHS is offering peer tutoring for all grade levels in a variety of subjects. If your student needs help in any class, please sign up using Google Docs link here. NHS students will match your student with an available student tutor.

This is a great way for Rhinos to learn from other Rhinos who have been there! And best part, it's free.

Do you know a remarkable Rhino?

Do you know a Carnegie Vanguard employee that has gone above and beyond? Do you want to honor someone at CVHS for their stellar service? Nominate that CVHS employee by filling out the form at this link: Employee of the Month nomination form.

The selection of the employee of the month will be made by a committee consisting of one teacher, one staff member and one administrator. If any of those individuals is nominated, then a replacement for that individual will be asked to stand in on the committee for that month.

You can view information about previous employee of the month recipients here.

Let's hear from you!

Picture retakes have been scheduled for Oct. 24th for anyone who might need one.

If you have any questions, e-mail Ms. Paget at apaget@houstonisd.org.

Colleges want Carnegie

Every year, a host of college reps head to the Houston area, and our campus in particular in search of the best we have to offer to apply to their schools. This year is no different as Ms. Chapman, Mr. Frau and Ms. Hooker have put together an incredible list of opportunities.

We are already a week into this process, but here is the remaining schedule. Juniors have all been informed of this, but everyone else should also know if for no other reason than to get information on the schools in question. Teacher/staff appreciation

Every month, the PTO organizes a luncheon on campus for CVHS faculty. Thanks to all volunteers who have already signed up.

However, there are still a few food items needed for upcoming events, so that together we can shower our remarkable CVHS faculty and staff with the praise that is their due!

Check out how you can help here.
