Message from the President

Well my time as PTO President has come to an end.  It has been a great year and a fabulous experience.  The PTO has managed its fundraising efforts despite tough economics in Houston so we could continue to support the school, teachers, and student organizations whenever possible.  We won a tough battle with HISD to keep UIL sports. We are well on our way to a covered pavilion in the courtyard and an active coffee bar.  We topped off our year by once again giving 5 scholarships to deserving seniors.  As I move into the background to the coveted "past president" role, I am confident turning over the helm to the capable hands of your new PTO President, Sarah Bittner.

I want to thank my fellow board members for all their hard work.  They are really the ones that make things happen, often behind the scenes.  In addition, I send my deepest thanks to all the parents out there who also work tirelessly to support this great school of ours.  THAT is how a school gets into the top 10 in the nation - parental support.  Our jobs are made easier with the terrific teachers and staff at CVHS.  Last, but certainly not least, I send my biggest thank you to Mr. Moss.  My role this last year has given me deeper insight into the life of an HISD high school principal, a view that often caused me to cower in fear!

I hope all of you have a wonderful summer as you prepare for new adventures next fall.  It has been a pleasure representing CVHS and I will treasure this experience forever.

   Khosla out!

Donate study guides to future Rhinos
AP Human Geography wants your old books!

Congrats, Rhinos, on finishing those AP Exams!   The AP Human Geography teachers have a suggestion for those AP study guides or duplicate textbooks that you purchased on your own: please consider donating them to the school!  Your teachers will be happy to have them to help next year's students!

Graduation Information

Graduation will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27th at the Kingdom Builders' Center, 6011 W Orem Dr, Houston, TX 77085.

Graduates should plan to arrive by 5:30 p.m.  Families are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time to the venue due to rush-hour traffic.  All guests will need to pass through security screening upon arrival.

No tickets are required, and graduates may invite as many guests as they like.  Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.   The ceremony is expeted to last approximately 90 minutes.

More information will be sent home with the Seniors soon.  Stay tuned!

Attention future drivers!

Students who plan to obtain learners' permits or drivers' licenses this summer will need to request a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) from the front office.  YOU MUST REQUEST YOUR VOE DURING THE LAST 5 DAYS OF THE SCHOOL YEAR for it to be valid all summer.  VOEs requested prior to the last 5 days of school will expire after 30 days.

Rhinos helping others

A Carnegie family was affected by the recent flood, and as we know, what affects one of us affects all of us here at CVHS. The school is collecting donations to help this family out in this time of need.

Donations can be taken to the front office. For questions, contact Ms. Alvarenga in the front office at calvaren@houstonisd.org.

PTO Corporate Giving Campaign

The PTO is establishing a committee to develop and implement a strategy for Carnegie's future through a corporate giving campaign.

We invite anyone interested in participating to contact Mark Levine, PTO VP of Fundraising, at mlevine@wkpz.com

Friends and Family Campaign Donors

THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS DONORS

We'd like to take a moment to thank so many members of our community for their support of our Friends and Family Campaign.    This years campaign is raising money for a covered outdoor pavilion in the CVHS courtyard.  This will be a beautiful and functional addition to our existing amphitheater, and will allow us to use the space in more ways.

This effort is spearheaded by CVHS parents Kevin McCarthy and Brent Nyquist, and we are grateful to them for the generous donation of their time and talents.

Our Friends and Family Campaign goal for the 2015-2016 school year is $40,000.    Together we have raised nearly $27,000 to date.   Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the CVHS PTO.
