Message from the President

Well despite our inexperience in the world of BINGO, I think we pulled off a pretty fun night!  We had around 120 hardcore BINGO players who played their hearts out and kept the gym full of laughter.  Winners took home some pretty nice gift cards that made winners from 7-70 very happy.  I think we will polish off the rough edges and try to make it an annual event.  Thanks to my fellow board members who helped pull it off and to alumni parent Steven Haydon for getting the (BINGO) ball rolling.

The next big event is the newly formatted Senior Awards Banquet.  Teachers and students decided to make the traditional May awards banquet into a senior event. Mr. Holloway is coordinating this event, which will take place May 16th. Awards for grades 9-11 will take place during the school day, and the evening will be all about the seniors.  Senior parents - your student should have brought home the invitation - backpack check!!

End of year contests, AP exams, and finals are quickly approaching.  Keep your student well fed, well rested, and be sure to do the same for yourself!  We all begin to stress out this time of year.  We also wish the Theatre gang the traditional "Break a leg!" good luck yell.  They have had to overcome some political pressure this year from parents (at other schools) fighting to ditch the CVHS chosen play, "Holy Day." They have held up well (we at CVHS seem to have our share of battles!) and have the rules on their side, so they are off to UIL state competition with best wishes from all.

As May 1 has come and gone, I congratulate the seniors on their college choices and wish them all the best.  It's such an exciting time, and as I remember from last year, quite the relief to have the decision made.  Best of luck to all!

Keep Calm and Rhino On!

It' time to celebrate the class of 2016!
Senior awards banquet May 16th

This year's awards banquet will be a seniors-only event. We invite all 12th graders and their families to attend a dinner and ceremony celebrating their accomplishments. Teachers will present awards, the PTO will announce scholarship winners, and the Class of '16 will make some special presentations.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased HERE, or by leaving a check with names of attendees in the front office to the attention of the PTO. You must purchase a ticket if you plan to eat.

The awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m. No ticket is required to attend the ceremony, but you'll need one to eat.

We want everyone in the Class of 2016 to come! If you would like financial assistance for dinner tickets, email or speak privately to Mr. Holloway.

Rhinos helping others

Thank you to all of our famlies who donated travel size toiletries and hotel shampoos after Winter break! Ms. Schmidt was able to drop off these items at the Women's Shelter and Catholic Charities, and they were very appreciative.

Ms. Schmidt will continue to collect these items on an on-going basis, so please keep her in mind as you accumulate hotel toiletries on your travels!

Also, a Carnegie family was affected by the recent flood, and as we know, what affects one of us affects all of us here at CVHS. The school is collecting donations to help this family out in this time of need.

Donations can be taken to the front office. For questions, contact Ms. Alvarenga in the front office at calvaren@houstonisd.org.

CVHS Theatre heads to UIL State!

Congratulations to our Rhino thespians!

Friends and Family Campaign Donors

THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS DONORS

We'd like to take a moment to thank so many members of our community for their support of our Friends and Family Campaign.    This years campaign is raising money for a covered outdoor pavilion in the CVHS courtyard.  This will be a beautiful and functional addition to our existing amphitheater, and will allow us to use the space in more ways.

This effort is spearheaded by CVHS parents Kevin McCarthy and Brent Nyquist, and we are grateful to them for the generous donation of their time and talents.

Our Friends and Family Campaign goal for the 2015-2016 school year is $40,000.    Together we have raised nearly $27,000 to date.   Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the CVHS PTO.
